The cost it ridiculous. $173 for a 3 day large game hunting license.

Sorry, had to vent.

I guess it's all about perspective, I pay more than that in preference points and lottery entries each year in hopes of being allowed to spend anywhere from $500-900 in license and tag fees to hunt a single animal. that three day Alabama license lets you shoot a lot of game and no add-on tags to buy.

Not worth it to me. And then her harassed by Mr Green jeans and treated like a criminal. Used to be affordable for the working man. Now it's a rich man's sport. I quit hunting.

I can buy an annual license for $399 but i won't be hunting but for 3 days so it's not worth paying the extra for all year.

I hunted in MS as an AL resident for several years, right up to when Katrina leveled the property we were on. Between the licenses and add-ons it was close to $450. All Game license was $X. Want to hunt deer(that’s not covered by ALL GAME) how about turkey? Also Extra. Want to bow hunt, extra. Muzzle loader, extra. And the cost are reciprocal from AL to MS and vice versa.

Annual with add ons is ridiculous. I stopped hunting AL after more than 20 years. Too expensive between license and leases/clubs. My friend moved to AR and I can hunt his property for free. I calculated last night that I’m saving at least $80 plus lease fees hunting my friend’s property this season. Will save even more if I don’t deer hunt. AL just got ridiculous with baiting and hog permits. I used to really enjoy hunting AL as close and made a lot of friends who are my extended family but not seeing deer made me jump on this new opportunity in AR. I’ll see how it works out but I’m happy I’ll get to duck and goose hunt too.

I’m sorry but that’s a minor expense compared to all others and AL NR license fees aren’t that bad.

Arguing 'it's not as bad as' is fallacious. The question is whether shooting a deer in AL is worth $173 per se. Considering how common deer are, and that they must be killed in great numbers for the general good, I'm not sure what it's actually worth. Can't be much.

If you tie it to how much it costs to manage, then you're overpaying. Government always wastes. It's built into the budget.

The part I don't like paying out of state fees to hunt land I own or pay to fish in a creek that runs through my land.

Exactly. It costs more just to try to get the possibility of hunting out there. Keep buying a license though and eventually you'll have enough preference points to get to go.

I agree with the OP $173.00 is too damn much to hunt for three days in my humble opinion. The point is not to out price the average American, but it sure seems that way.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I now reside back in the state of Alabama but in years past, I’ve paid NR fees. It’s too damn high. The add on is ridiculous. Mississippi is just as bad and maybe a little higher. It’s easier for me to justify Missouri fees but only because I like to trophy hunt. One day they may go to lottery and preference point crap too unfortunately.

It used to piss me off to no end that for years I had to choose between being a law abiding citizen and getting done prison style by the State just so I could hunt my own land. The good news I figured was that if I got caught less than once every four years I was at break even and anything less was just gravy.

I’m not sure what you mean but last I knew AR was around $400 and that won’t get you in a duck blind legal

If I had my way the cost would be reciprocal with whatever state your coming from charges Alabama residents to hunt in their state. It will be a little more work on the staff, but is the best way to look after the interests of the hunters, especially AL residents that want to hunt in another state. Make em pay if they want to come here and hunt our deer and turkeys if they are going to jack us on their game animals. Of course, as always I would have an exception for active military personnel. They would be treated like residents.
