Well. I got diabetes. Been taking other stuff a while. A12 kept creeping up and Doc wanted me to get on ozempic. Took fist shot Monday morning. I have been nausea for two days. And I have throwed my guts up this evening. And have had a nasty taste in my mouth for a couple days. Along with belching those nasty burps. Has anyone had these side effects and how long did they last. I ain’t so sure I have taken the last shot of ozempic I’ll ever take.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

What dose are you on? I take it and it was doing so good I talked my doc into letting me go up to a full 1mg from .5 mg. I do fine on .5 but on a full 1mg a day after the shot I get the Tijuana trots something fierce. I’m talking waking up in the middle of the night and sprinting to the bathroom and just barely making it. The first couple of weeks I just thought it was something I ate but finally made the connection because my wife’s cousin’s husband has the same reaction, especially if he eats bbq. I went back down to .5 and no more issues except a lot of gas from both ends and hiccups almost continuously for a couple of days.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Nausea and vomiting are common early on. "Typically," those side effects will subside in the first 3-4 days, most folks it is only about 24 hours of nausea. Once you get used to it, the first day you will be nauseous, but that is about it. Everyone is different and some folks are more sensitive to it than others. If you acclimate and do well, don't be surprised if it happens like this again when you ramp up a dose. You will take 1 dose a week for a month before you start ramping up. If it works for you and you get to a healthy weight, blood sugar is in check and your A1C is good, you will probably go to every 2 weeks and in some I have seen every 3.

Take the shot in the hip not the stomach…also ozempic is a pure glp1…it’s a fantastic medication in terms of cardiovascular, renal, and liver health but sometimes that glp1 is tough on people in which they can’t tolerate it. I consult your doctor to see about Switching to mounjaro if that continues after a couple of weeks etc Mounjaro is a partial glp1 though doesn’t have the indications for helping all those organ systems as above. I see better A1c and weight loss with the mounjaro typically.

It goes away. But it also has a lot of complications they're finding out now. Most recent I saw was something about the teeth.

It goes away. But it also has a lot of complications they're finding out now. Most recent I saw was something about the teeth. There are side effects, as with all medicines, but there is a lot of fear mongering going on with them too, mostly online social media click bait posts. Fact is, being overweight is significantly more harmful than an overwhelming majority of the side effects. There are a few legit ones that are serious but they’re exceedingly rare. Also don’t forget that this medicine isn’t “new”….it was already used for diabetic patients and then it was realized that one of the (good) side effects was weight loss.

I'm 47 and I've been diagnosed with Type II for over a decade, been on insulin for the last 2 or 3 years. Here's my perspective. Doctors do a horrible job of explaining what is going on and do a lot of fear-mongering to sell more drugs.
If you are Type II (which I assume) it just means your body is running a little rich like that old Evinrude out board motor. It's probably a combination of insulin resistance from fat around the middle and an aging pancreas that has been overworked. You ain't gonna drop dead if you blood sugar is in the 200's or even 300's. You do need to pay attention. The logic behind Ozempic is if you lose the belly fat your insulin resistance goes down which increases the effectiveness of the insulin you are making naturally, which lowers A1C, wonderful. But the downside is you will also lose muscle, particually sketal muscle, which as a you age you want to hang on to as much muscle as possible. Maintaining skeletal muscle and strength in old age is associated with better outcomes.
Some studies that show Ozempic can cause or exasperate parlyzing the digestive system. That is probably what you are experiencing. I'd personally stop now and throw it away. I've had that before, non-ozempic related and it put me in the ER 3 times. Pure misery.
At the end of the day, all this is aiming at maybe extending your life span by a couple of years or months for most people. I know 80 year old men strong as an ox literally losing their mind about waking up at 120 or 130. It's absolutely insane, let grandpa enjoy his birthday cake. He's going to die of something else lost before diabetes at that age. You have to weigh out the pros and cons and not listen to the drug pushers.
My RX is: Lift weights, walk, try to eat ok, avoid binge drinking, don't smoke, use insulin to keep my Glucose in reasonable safe levels. I usually run about 50 points higher than a non-diabetic person on average. 150 while fasting, 250-300 after eating. I have had no negative effects in 10 years. Nothing on my last diabetic eye exam and just passed a clean stress stest with a strong heart. All at 300 pounds and 47 years old. I haven't always lived a clean life either.
My point is that losing weight is important and will help your outcome, but it's not everything. I dropped 30 pounds in a month during covid because the bars and restaurants were closed in Dallas. I had nothing to do but walk 3-4 miles a night out of sheer boredom and I don't drink alone or at home. My levels went down and this was before I was on insulin. We don't realize how much we are eating out and sitting on our butt most of the time due to routine.
That being said, don't throw caution to the wind. I've seen someone think their diabetes wasn't real and I went to his funeral. He was over 600 when he got to the ER. Everyone is different, just keep checking you blood sugar. Most of the people you see losing limbs and suffering major complications just refuse to accept the condition or deal with it mentally. You'll be amazed what even a 10 minute walk does. Our bodies were designed for 8 to 9 miles of walking a day. Diabetes is a by product of modern life for most of us, especially the husky and brawny.
I'm the third person in my immediate family with Type II. Everyone has lived normal lives, we all basically ate normal just had to make sure we take our medications and get some regular exercise. Most of these medications exist because people simply won't exercise enough and eat like a rabbit. I include myself, but I try to do a mix so I am not 100% dependent on medications. As Goomer said, there is always going to be a risk with any medication.
I don't know your age or condition, but this is a great time to pick up a new hobby like weight lifting, walking, pickle ball, etc... Do what you can it and do it as regularly as possible. It adds up and makes a big difference. Good luck to you.

Heat makes the nausea worse while on ozempic. It finally gets less severe as you adjust to it.
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Not happy about it but I'm at 2.0 injections of ozempic once per week ,, had slight nausea at first and loose bowels early on not severe though.. no vomiting. belching normal after a meal. I started at .25 injections at first built up to 2.0... my A1C was 6.8 but not long after blood lab work down to A1C of 6 . I've lost over 50 lbs but have much to go.... oh yeah almost forgot I'm taking 10mgs of Jardiance once a day too...
I work out at the hospital cardio pulmonary gym on machines two to three times per week. I don't think about the symptoms or side effects much really, no paralized bowel syndrome has happened to me but is scary if it were to happen ... I read its treatable and reversed but it's not a pleasant something to get over. I hate needles so injecting myself once per week makes me little bit queezy sometimes. I can't wait for them to come out with a capsule or pill of Ozempic.

The biggest [common] negative to Ozempic/Wegovy/etc that most people experience is loss of muscle mass. This is avoidable, but you need to be absolutely HAMMERING protein. A good rule of thumb is whatever your *ideal* body weight is, you should be eating that many grams of protein per day. Most people would also benefit from 5-10g of creatine every day too.

Does insurance usually pay for these? My A1C was 6.4 a year ago. I ain’t checked it in awhile but I eat a lot less bread. Almost none. Do carnivore off and on. Sugar free drinks only. I need to go get mine checked again.

I have tried Trulicity and Ozempic. Both we had to adjust too, nausea, bloating, gas. Finally got on Mounjorna, much easier to tolerate. A better diet and some exercise, lost 45#. Eat lots of protein.

I'm Type 2. Been diagnosed as such for 12 or 15 years. I take 1000mg of Metformin ER in the morning and again at night. My sugar hovers around 150 and long as I don't eat whites or sugars. Quit all alcohol over 2 years ago. My A1C is around 7 now but stayed around 5 for the first 10 years. I reckon I'll just keep on doing as I'm doing.
