Brother had his Honda 1000-5 on a single for a few years. Really wore the inside of the tires from the weight. Traded up to a dual axle with brakes and it’s night and day difference pulling it. This is why I said what I’ve said about a tandem. Singles will wear badly on the inside from the weight is a SxS. Is that all you hauled on it? I wouldn't think a 1500# sxs would would be enough to bend the axle, and I wouldn't think the tires would wear on the inside unless the axle was bent. I know mine don't.

Using a 12 ft single to pull a Kubota Sidekick. No issues so far (I did mount a spare tire on it just in case). That being said if I was buying another I would probably get a tandem axle 18-20 footer just so I could have a little more versatility to haul a tractor or other equipment. In fact the 12 footer may be up for sale soon

You can always put more stuff if a longer trailer. But not with a short one. If I didn't already have one, I'd be looking at a tandem.

I don’t know about around the house use, but I can confidently say with certainty that commercial use, (hauling 8-12k miles a year) a single axle trailer is not designed to haul the rated load they claim. Two axles are absolutely necessary.

Axle ratings vary but a lot of folks forget to account for the trailer itself. A single 3500 axle with 1500 pounds of trailer sitting on it only has a max(theoretical) 2000 of payload left. And you should not max out your trailer. Add the SxS, a cooler or two of ice, grab a few 50# sacks of corn, etc and you are at capacity quick.

I also know that it takes more than 3500# to bend a 3500# axle. I don't doubt that The trailer got overloaded at some point and did damage. I just know mine is still wearing tires flat and it's used for more than just around town.
