I woke up this morning to a tiny spotted fawn bedded down right in the middle of my back yard...and I mean right in the middle of the yard. No cover at all. It's still there as of 12:35 this afternoon.

I know their natural instinct is to lay down where momma put them and not move, and that's what it's doing, but it's been hours. Seems odd for momma to put it there to start with, then to be gone away from such a little feller for this long...especially in the middle of the day.

Hope nothing has happened to her.

At what point should I begin to be alarmed and think about doing something? Call the game warden?

Yes, absolutely.

But, it's still and quiet....which is normal.

Maybe the momma knew you were a nice guy and would look after her.

Jumped a really tiny one cutting the front yard today. Waited till I got 5 ft from it before it got up. Couldn't really walk just wobble into corn field about 20 ft away. Cute

We saw this little one Friday morning on our morning hike at Desoto State Park. She never felt alarmed, only curious. She stood there and let Mrs. Irish talk to her for a while. We could have fed her a bag of peanuts if we had them.

I'd leave it alone and for sure not call the GW.

If the fawn hasn’t fed in awhile it’s probably dehydrated.

I see them in full sun all the time at the neighborhood I work at. It will be fine and momma will come back and get it when she is ready. Ridge life I’d have beat the teeth out of mine the first one she killed. Does around the house dropped their fawns close to me because they felt safe that my curs kept the predators away. They would walk right bye a fawn and that’s what they were trained to do.
