I did not serve so my opinion doesnt take those experiences into account.

But my thoughts on the Ukraine situation are:

1. Ukraine is one of the most corrupt nations on the planet. That is why so many of our politicians have family involved in businesses there (so they can get kickbacks)
2. There isnt anything that I know of that we need from Ukraine that we cannot get from other places.
3. We keep pushing Russia by adding NATO member nations. I think (and might be wrong) that when the Soviet Union collapsed we made certain promises to the USSR to get them to give up the nukes that were in Ukraine and other places, one of those conditions was that we would not expand NATO. But like out government so often does, it lied, and proceeded to add just about every country on the border with the new Russian Republic.

I believe we (as a western nation) have far more in common with the Russians that we do with the Chinese or Middle Easterners. The things we have in common should be strengthened with Russia and less with China. China is our real enemy. I am not saying that the Russians are our friends but I dont think they want to dominate the world or attack us (like China is planning).

Those are just my opinions and opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

I love my country, but don't trust my government.
