When did this become a thing? I don’t ever remember a kid in school growing up with a nut allergy. My son’s elementary school is peanut free, and my daughter’s preschool is completely nut free. No peanuts, peanut butter, almond butter, Nutella, etc.

I ate thousands of pb&j’s in school growing up.

We deal with kids at church all the time. Allergies are crazy now.

Look at the bright side. At least kids aren't getting chicken pox and polio.....

The first time I heard of a peanut allergy was probably around 1998ish.

Kids eat lots of processed crap now. And they don't have to eat what their parents eat. I grew up on beans and cornbread several days per week. School lunch was more cornbread most days. Boiled cabbage, etc. When we had kids my wife and I fought the make them eat what is served battle until the kids learned to cook.

The number of vaccines some get has greatly increased. Ten plus years ago we were going through the list of vaccines and turning some down. I think they are even more now.

It all started when parents started catering to their kids eating habits. Way back when the parents stopped making their kids clean their plates.

10% rule at its finest.

Nut allergy is an attention whore thing. I ran a call on a woman I recognized from my side job. She didn't recognize me, but I did her. I specifically asked her if she had any allergies. Answer was no. She was having an asthma attack. No allergies. History of asthma. Transported her to the hospital. At that time I worked full time fire service and part time I.T. work for St. Vincents (Ascension Health).

Transported her on Saturday. Monday morning I show up for I.T. job and signs are hanging all over the building. Peanut allergy. No peanuts allowed. I asked who. They told me who. I walked straight down to her office. Told her I knew she was lying and she recognized me from Saturday call. I reminded her she had no allergies. Long story short, the signs were down by lunch and it was labeled as a misunderstanding. Had I not done that, she was going to manipulate the entire I.T. building into cowtowing to her attention whoring ass. She would never look me in the eye after that. I think some of her coworkers figured it out, she wasn't there shortly after.

I never forgot that and always suspect anyone using an allergy to ruin everyone elses experience. You got a deadly allergy, stay the hell home. The rest of us shouldn't have to kiss your ass.

Another instance. My little girl was in Pre-K when her teacher informed us she was lactose intolerant. My wife bought that shit hook line and sinker. She drank chocolate milk one day and threw up shortly after.

So she's got lactose issues. I called bullshit. Her lunch/snacks consisted of cheese and milk products every f'ing day when I was in charge.

Kids throw up. Kids get sick. They handle all kinds of germy things and promptly put their booger hooks in their mouth. It doesn't make them allergic or intolerant. It makes them human.

People have truly lost their f'ing minds. Everyone wants to be a victim. It started with the Peanut bs back in the 90's. Now it's progressed to damned near everything.

What the F happened to being strong, healthy and proud of it? But being a victim gets more attention.

That BS drives me bananas. It seems everyone is allergic to some type of food. The lactose intolerant really pisses me off because they can’t eat certain things, but will eat a plate of Mac and cheese.

Not what I was expecting when I opened this thread. I was hoping one of you parent types had found a wokey at your child's school and used a shovel or truck antenna maybe a pair of Crocs double arm DDT or something heinous.

P nut allergies are strange. My son has it and it ain’t good. Let one child in a preschool go into anaphylactic shock and die because no one knows what to do. That’s why schools are going nut free along with other things. I have no problem with it. We never had peanut products when I went to school that I can remember. I like boiled p nuts and roasted p nuts and raw p nuts. They don’t bother me.

Fun fact, peanut free schools do not see a decrease in the rate of emergency epinephrine usage due to peanut anaphylaxis. Peanut free schools are shown to do absolutely nothing but reduce what kids can bring to eat.

There are some who are truly anaphylactic to nuts, but most of those people know to stay away from anything that might even remotely have come in contact with anything that is nutty. These are the people who carry an Epipen on their persons in case of an encounter.

We did not have nut or peanut specific items banned when I was in school (class of '87), but I am sure it is a CYA move by the schools over liability concerns because they can't keep little kids from sharing or touching each others food and hands, etc.

But, it does make me wonder if changes in how peanuts are farmed over the years has caused the rise in the true serious allergies to nuts. It might be more accurately a reaction to a pesticide used on them or a component used in harvesting in more recent years compared to 40-50 years ago.

I thought this was gonna be a California and Gavin Newsome idea to rid schools of boys from becoming men. Another woke idea.

I have a different opinion on the lactose intolerance thing. Most people are lactose intolerant to some degree. If you stop drinking milk for about 6 months and then start back you will see. Some can tolerate it more than others.

Name one other species in this world that naturally and consistently drinks the milk of another species.

Name another species that has made an atomic bomb…

I used to see it all the time on airplanes when I worked. No nut snacks within 4 rows of that passenger. Granted it was not guaranteed because people brought their own food.

It would be tough to live around here with a peanut allergy. I’ll drink 3-4 gallons of whole milk in a week most weeks. Lactose intolerance is most prevalent with black folks I’ve heard. I’m no doc by any means

My oldest son is allergic to all nuts, in a bad way. Other 2 are not at all.
Definitely not an “attention whore” lol

It’s pretty unnerving dropping your toddler off to care of others when ingestion of a damn nut could kill him. 1 teacher watching 20 kids. 20 kids trading food/snacks. just an example.

We are doing gradual desensitization, but it’s something he’ll have to be mindful of his entire life.
