every year I am getting more and more of these critters, someone help with some advice. Hunting them don't work, trapping them don't work, feller I know said you should poison them, I know that is not legal, They are killing off a lot of my young deer.

What is legal is making yourself sugar free treats with xylitol as the sweetener especially if you are fat or diabetic.

Trapping will work. Just trap really hard 3 weeks before fawns hit the ground and continue for a few weeks after they hit the ground.

Do the same with coons and coyotes when hens start nesting. You just create a void of predators during the most important time.

Cut up sponges soaked in bacon grease! Works like a charm.

What kind of sponges are you using? My lab used to eat nerf footballs and just poop them out.

That's what I've always thought too......I believe a lab could eat and pass half a couch cushion...

From what I understand you have to make the sponge small by wrapping it tight with something like dental floss. Then the stomach acid eats the floss and the sponge expands causing a gut blockage. The coyote then dies a slow painful death. I would just rather trap and shoot em.

Just normal dish washing sponges. Cut them in small squares, soak em in grease and throw them out. Not even sure if it's 100% legal, but it works.

Hey brother, I really could give two $hits about a Yote. I do trap our lease, and shoot every one on sight, but that ain't doing much. Same as pigs. But I understand your point.

I know I know I’m kind of a softy. I’m not saying I wouldn’t ever do the sponge thing, but trapping them is effective, and I enjoy it when I got time to do it. I have gut shot pigs before so I didn’t have to fool with them. I guess that’s pretty much the same thing.

yep , buy it cheap on amazon by the bag , takes very little .

Out of curiosity- how do you know it works? Do you find them dead with swole up guts?

OK, I'm not a proponent of this, but I was given the info by an old Game Warden, and he wasn't a fan of it either because it is a slow painful death, but instead of sponges I was told to use chunks of Styrofoam soaked in bacon grease. Coyotes swallow meat in chunks and don't chew it. I guess the sponges would work the same. That is why it blocks them up. I've never done that but I've never seen evidence that they are hurting the deer population where I hunt. Now, we shoot every one we see, but that is to keep them out of quail nests more so than fawns.

Improve habitat and quit worrying about them. They aren’t going anywhere. You can drive yourself mad and be persistent with a futile endeavor or provide better fawning cover.

That was the first thing I thought of reading some of these posts.

They don’t get loose with proper care and fences.I have thought set lines would be pretty effective. Keep them in place until you shoot them in the morning.
