Seems to me if you got to hunt one of the SOA's of your choice then take a back seat and let others who've not got to hunt in one of those premium locations get drawn... or is that asking too much ???

Just saw the notification where they have changed to a true preference point system for SOA hunts this year. previously it was a bonus point system that cubed your preference points each year, now they have gotten rid of the cubed points and hunts will be drawn by people with the highest number of points. will be interesting to see how it shakes out, its a more "fair" system and allows for easier planning purposes but if there are a lot more people applying than hunts available, the point creep could be a real issue. Where did you see the notification?

This soa stuff is a joke. I see the same people get drawn for hunts and gator tags every year and some people never get drawn. They cant plant the greenfields or keep the roads in decent shape but they can buy all this special opportunity land

^ Yes! Make it archery only or mz /shotgun but don’t limit the access to basically nothing ever or once in a lifetime. It’s a waste of our money. Make it open access.

I like the SOA system just like it is. No need to turn them into a WMA. Most of them are too small.

You are probably right. I have just never been drawn so I’m bitter. Maybe this year will change my mind if I get drawn.

Tags are the only way to manage the hunts without just setting and enforcing quotas. No need in weapons restrictions unless it's during specific times of the season

The new system can’t be any worse but I don’t trust any of the state drawn hunts. You got folks like Coosa1 (no offense you lucky sonuvagun) that have been drawn 100 times and others that have never been drawn. . . And don’t get me started on the alligator tag horsechit debacle. This, all of this. Interersting that this SOA points thing changed now that someone's not in Montgomery anymore.

This, all of this. Interersting that this SOA points thing changed now that someone's not in Montgomery anymore. it could actually be much worse. at least now there's a chance you could get drawn, based on the numbers from the first year of the program, there were 6 time more people applying than they have spots for and Im betting the number now may be more like 20x more people applying. This will mean point creep every year and no guarantee that you'll draw even when you're in the top point group. Also, if they don't change anything like allotting a percentage to random draw, it means once you've drawn or forgotten to apply one year and loose your points, you have zero chance of ever drawing again.

Like was said before, many of these are not special at all. Open them up to open access archery only and save a bunch of wasted money and wasted opportunity.
