Permethrin is about the only thing I’ve found that works more times than it doesn’t. I’ve always heard once you start to itch you’re about a day late.

Yep, by the time you’re itching they’re long gone. I hit my ankles and pants legs with repellent every time I get out of the truck in the country.

Benedril cream helped some but they are awful. I got into some bad a few years ago. It was about 2 weeks of pure misery.

Vagisil cream helps with the itch about as well as anything else I’ve tried. The chiggerid stuff always worked pretty good not sure if they still make it. I’ve heard bathing in Clorox bath helps some also

I’ve been stung by bullet ants, tarantula wasp, a caterpillar that paralyzed my leg, and a multitude of other insects worldwide. I still don’t appreciate chiggers on my ball sack nor azz crack. Nothing really works after the bite cept lidocaine.

Chigger x is the best if you can can find it. In a plastic jar. That's what I use. That spray with hot water or clean with alcohol before you apply it for best results. Like others said spray with repellent to avoid them is the best bet though. I hate chigs
