Probably gonna go back to mixing my own using BFO, wheat and rye grain. Been buying a good mix for last several years but am tired of throwing away money on Radishes and Pea which have no chance of survival at my place. Basic three grains and a really good clover mix.

I let all the big landowners and lease hunters around me keep ‘em full with high dollar greenfield groceries and corn, then I give them a low pressure sanctuary with an abundance of varied bedding areas, mineral sites, and fresh water. I got more bucks per acre than a Tecomate commercial. Seminars coming soon to a town near you: $599/General Admission or VIP meet n’ greet for only $999/ticket. Fields with more structure like sandy loam or loam get winter wheat (seed) and Dixie Crimson clover and the sandy spots get Abruzzi cereal rye. Get your lime right and that is about all you need in the winter. Deer seem to like it just fine. We do put in Oats every once in a while if we can't get all the wheat we need.

It's been tough the last couple falls, with rain not coming early enough for me to have a good stand of brassicas. Also with the really cold weather we had a couple seasons ago, I switched to planting cereal rye heavily. It bounces back quickly, and is more cold tolerant and the deer like it. I will put some brassica's in it, and some sort of an annual clover, like crimson if I can get it, or arrowleaf, which is double the price of crimson.
I like Whitetail clover, or Fusion, although broadleaf control with Fusion can be tough, due to herbicide killing the chicory. I will plant winter wheat on plots I disk, if I am not disking them, then only cereal rye.
What I have shifted focus on is ensuring I have something growning well coming out of the rut and into early preggo times. I am going to plant some barduro clover this fall, and also some deer vetch.
Then in the spring, I try to get out early and plant peas and beans. I like lab lab alot. Eagle Soybeans are good. I am also going to plant a pure stand of sunn hemp. If I can get that up, the deer will hammer it.

We have always used wms seeds and will continue to do so.
But the best bag seed is vitalize seed carbon load. This stuff is unreal. It’s also 100 bucks an acre. We will do a few plots in it every fall.

I like WMS and have had great success with it over the years. With that being said I’m realizing now I can plant wheat, oats, crimson clover and red clover and get fields just as good as the WMS plots that last through July. The new red clover that is 24d tolerant is a game changer for us. I’m actually going to leave out crimson clover this year and see if it reseeds itself. I’m in SW Alabama.

Any store that carries WMS should be able to get it in 50 lb bags. Last year my label had a germ rate of 94% and the seed coat was 45%. I think I was planting around 30lbs to the acre which gave me around 15lbs of pure live seed. Hope this helps. It is a little pricey but you can get it to last through July and deer seem to really like it.
