I was able to spend a week driving around Alabama as part of a book signing tour. This meant a lot to me because my family and I moved to TN a year and a half ago for a job. First time I've left Alabama in 40 years, but I guess there are worst places to move. We live in East TN now where there are smallmouth bass in every creek. Although this trip was about book promotion, the real treat was hitting the water and fishing for some old favorites and seeing some of my favorite people along the way. I started out with a float on the Cahaba River in search of Cahaba redeye bass. The fishing was spotty, but consistent. This was one of the few times in my life where I thought I might actually get trapped out on the water in the dark. An afternoon rainstorm interrupted my pre-calculated float time and I made it out (albeit soaked to the bone) just before dark!







A couple of days later I was able to get out on the Chattahoochee River and catch a few shoal bass before I donated my phone to the river. I later found it, and it surprisingly worked, but gave up the fight that later that day. It was time to upgrade anyways!



I also went to north Alabama and was able to get into a few smallmouth, skipjack, and white bass before a signing event at the Huntsville Orvis store. It was a great trip!
