there is a team based in albertville 5 Stat vipers.

THEY are a legit 11U team coached by a great coach. dont take no bs from the players or parents. he has several kids that play for him and are not even close to albertville

That's odd there's a Vipers team out of Albertville . There's been Vipers teams out of VBA in Huntsville for 20 + years. They have several different teams in each age . Their most elite team in each age will usually be one of the best in the country.

BTW Brice Harper was a hired gun when he played travel ball. He played for one of the best USSSA majors teams in the country when he was 12 , the California Red Wings. Of course he was the best and they were all good. He also played on an elite 13U and 14U and was reportedly the best player on those teams as well. I saw him in Huntsville in 2005 , he hit about 12 HR in one weekend.

you are correct , i know the fella that runs VBA Platinum, good fella and good coach. my son has picked up with them several times and has nothing but good things to say about them.

5 Star Vipers is a different organization from Viper Baseball Academy.

That is a whole lot of trouble and money to go through to play JUCO baseball. I am not knocking JUCO ball, it is more baseball than I have ever been talented enough to play, but it seems like it would cost more to send my kid somewhere like VBA his whole life for lessons than it would to just pay tuition at a junior college.

Fair point .

I'll add Huntsville area has been a hot bed for BB talent for years. I'll guess that most of those who play HS ball at the big HS in Huntsville /Madison and a couple of the private schools play or have played travel ball and most of those get or have gotten winter training. If you play Varsity at one of the 7 A schools around H'ville you got do some of it , because the other kids are . Huntsville is not the only area like that either.

Nightwatchman, if you think it’s trouble then you are right it’s not worth it. If your kid isn’t begging to play it I wouldn’t do it. The money… well we raised most of ours but it is a lot of money. We would have spent it on something though. We had one playing baseball all over the southeast and one playing soccer all over the southeast. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The only time it was an issue is when we put it above our relationship with the Lord. We did do that one year. We got back on track though. We used it as a ministry the majority of the time. Bible studies and church services with our team and sometimes a few other teams in the hotel lobby on Sunday morning. It did get a little different when he played showcases. They were more individualistic. But nah I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

My boy is only 4. He is currently playing 6U ball. I dont really know if he likes it or not. I guess he is "good" at it, but I don't really know he is only 4 years old and I dont really even think he understands the competitive element to it. He does okay when he is up to bat and he can field a ground ball, and admittedly he can almost make the throw to first from short stop. I think he mainly just likes being around his friends.

I am coaching the 6U North Bibb All Star team and this is my first year. He and I both have alot to learn if we are going to keep doing this. I can't really say I am enjoying it, it is very stressful to manage the administrative things like delegating someone to keep a book in the games and getting the kids to not goof off in the dugout but if the kids like it, then I will keep doing it

Baseball is a love hate relationship for me. My older 2 didn’t love baseball they liked it. They’re going to try to play middle school ball but neither will be devastated if they don’t make it. My youngest loves baseball. From the time he was 4 all he wants to do is throw or hit a ball. It gets really obnoxious at times but it’s all he studies. He walks around throwing ghost balls and swinging ghost bats if he’s not actually playing.

As far as the money goes. You’re going to spend it on something for your kids. My oldest 2 are eat up with t the outdoors. So I spent on guns and bows and fishing tackle etc.. I don’t see how spending money on baseball is any different. I always said I would support my kids interests as best as I could. In my opinion if you start looking at it a some sort of investment or expecting some sort of return you’ll never find a worthy cause.

If you or your kids genuinely love the game, than it is worth it no matter where they end up in their career. I agree with that. I am just sort of wired to view everything through the lens of ROI.

Prime example: I played football at UWA. I can't really say I "loved" it or I feel this huge sense of pride looking back on some sort of illustrious career, but it did give me a means to pay for school and paved the way for me to get a degree and a really good job that I otherwise would not have without associated student debt. I don't know how much money my dad forked over to pay for me to go to camps and lessons but I am sure it was alot. He certainly didn't have to pay for my college education if he didn't want to( I am sure he would have) but after I signed a football scholarship he didn't have to
