Weird question I guess, but why does the catcher have gear? Rules say he has to wear it Is 6U not still t-ball at your park? Ours is and there is no catcher. Scottsboro 6U park ball they don't use a catcher , it's coach pitch , after 2 strikes the player can get a final strike off the tee. Most of the good kids play travel ball. 6U travel is coach pitch only , they don't hit off a tee at all. Travel tourneys use a catcher.

Right. The reason I asked is I’m pretty sure Alex City plays Cal Ripken. In Cal Ripken 6U is tee ball.

Because Cal Ripken League is GHEY for making 6U tee ball. I don’t know about now, but 10-12 years ago Cal Ripken was the most advanced park league there was. I like the idea 6U coach pitch. I’ve never seen how an all star team looks playing it at that age, but if it’s anything like the rest of the all star leagues it’s gone way down hill. The talent is gone. The kids are gone. 12 years ago the park my son played at had 8 12U teams. They had 10 11U teams. We played travel and all star tournaments with the kids every year. I’m umpiring again now and it’s a joke. If one of the 11U teams I saw last weekend got in a 2D tournament they might not score a run. And 2D isn’t great.

The good kids play travel only and the best of them play elite USSSA Majors and AAA . Watching park ball all stars , then seeing a good AAA or Major USSSA team is jaw dropping.

Travel ball is way overrated from a talent perspective. Most are dads that got mad and started a team. Some are really good. Most are incredibly average

I’ve been at some PG tournaments where there were some high level 12U teams. National teams. Kids form 10 different states on the same team. Flying kids in to pitch on Saturday and Sunday

Most are incredibly average The lower level travel teams are nothing but the same talent level that used to play park ball. But the good teams in the big organizations are a different story.

Yeah that’s what I meant the ones that you earn a spot and actually travel especially ones like you described are for real good. But that is the exception not the rule. Most travel ball is daddy’s with egos

work at gate at a PG event last year, 16U tournament. it was all East Coast Sox National Scout teams from all over the country. this was in hoover. one team played pool and bracket friday and sat, made the championship and they flew in a pitcher from key west to pitch 3 innings, he never batted and when he finished pitching got an uber and went back home. was in the state a total of 5 hours according to the coach. there is a team based in albertville 5 Stat vipers. THEY are a legit 11U team coached by a great coach. dont take no bs from the players or parents. he has several kids that play for him and are not even close to albertville ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/C5dSCmqv/5STAR-1.png) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/DDK7Lsm7/5STAR.png)

It’s what most national organizations do. They do it at several venues around the country to get close to college scouts.

Sj I had a couple of those kids on my team last year that played yall. There’s a couple that are very good. They won the state tournament last year in our group (however they determine those things). My son should technically play in that age group but we played him up this year in 8u. We will be in calera tonight too holler at me if yall are there. Be nice to put a face with a name

I gotcha BC. I guess I missed that part. Probably forgot it honestly. Too many concussions.
Either way it’s a local tournament? That’s what I was trying to ask.
Cal Ripken used to be District, State, Regionals, and then the World Series. Teams had to finish 1st or 2nd in the tournament to move on. I guess yall call the first tournament Regionals?
