My sister is in town from Argentina for a few weeks. She grew up in Mississippi. Wants to go eat catfish one night. Is the Ark in Pell City still decent? What about Top of the River? Old Ezell's still open?

I love Top of The River but that's a decent drive. Since you're in Chelsea, why don't you run down to Batter Up down in Childersburg, they have some great catfish.

I don't know if all locations are the same but the Full Moon BBQ here in McCalla fries up some of the best catfish I have eaten.

Take her right up the road to Pappadeaux's. They have a great fried selection and one of my favorite restaurant dishes ever...... Mississippi Catfish Opelousas

Large Blackened Catfish Filet,
Topped with Oysters, Shrimp, Jumbo Lump Crab, Lemon Garlic butter sauce.
Served on a bed of dirty rice

Can't go wrong with that.

If it’s simple fried catfish go to Johnnys bbq in Cullman. It’s much better than top of the river. Now top of the rivers greens, corn bread and onions in vinegar are hard to beat

I'll second Jim n Nicks. I haven't eaten BBQ from there in years. When I want catfish, it is my go-to. The homemade tartar sauce is legit!!!

Champy’s in Alabaster is pretty good.

Why are there no fried bream houses out there? They are a whole lot better than catfish. Especially when the fish is old.

It be's that way sometimes.

Martins bbq in cahaba heights has great ala raised catfish but their hush puppies are not the best. Jim and nicks catfish is good also and it’s also Alabama raised catfish.

Fair point. However, she wanted it as her first meal back in the states today and I didn't have the time for the fish and all the sides ahe was expecting 🤣

However I am smoking all her favorites plus all the trimmings over the weekend. Butt, ribs, skillet corn, bbq beans, and pig shots.

So I gave her a choice of local places that do catfish well or go to an old school fish place. She wanted old school like we had back in the Sip. Ark in Riverside. Just got home from a really good meal. Fish was solid.

Best fried fish I’ve had consistently is at Hucks in Columbus, Ms. we really are blessed to have it.
I would think Bright Star would be very good. I’ve had their snapper throats.
