Word on FB in Monroe is 300 hunters lost their leases totaling some 29,000 acres to the State unexpectedly (3 years early).

What‘s the scoop on this? Is this going to be incorporated into the existing WMA or god forbid a SOA?

A buddy of mine lost his that is very close to the Red Hills WMA (he lost most last year to it) so I would think the pieces of it that are close to Red Hills would be incorporated with it. I’ve also read that a good bit of it is landlocked so it’s gonna get interesting if they make the rest SOA’s.

Several people I know lost land this week, most of it was smaller blocks,3-600 acres, idk who the guy was that said 300 hunters but that doesn’t seem realistic?Someone is going to get killed on red hills before long, way overcrowded now. With the way it’s set up there are only so many gates to park at and walk in and hunt.My nieces husband and my neighbor are the biologist and game wardens on it and several times this year he checked 50 people turkey hunting,I know it’s a big area but the way it’s set up 50 people on it is crowded as hell,it’s just as crowded during deer season too.

Yep sure is. Can't go anywhere out there without walking into someone.

Turning that area into a WMA is, theoretically, creating more public access. But the practical effect is that better than a thousand hunters have been displaced and without the access and club controls, much of it is rather inaccessible to all but the hardiest of folks, or outlaws.

We hunted that a lot when you could get a permit for $15.00 from the paper company.Good deer populations and OUTSTANDING turkey hunting! Miss those days!
