Just curious if anyone on here uses the VA Health Care system in Alabama exclusively for your health care. I was approved for VA healthcare (not Tricare) a little over a year ago. I have been to my initial Dr. visit, was fairly impressed and walked away with a set of sweet hearing aids. I have been classified with an 8C rating which means I have no service connected disability or disability rating. This means I am responsible for co pays for Drs. visits and if needed, hospital stays. As of now I am also a member of a health share plan but have thought about dropping that and just relying on the VA in Birmingham for my health care. From what I have researched if I have to have a major surgery it would be performed at UAB with UAB Drs., I could be wrong on that. Also, I can use any ER for medical emergencies as long as I notify the VA within 72 hrs. of the treatment at a non VA facility. Just a little nervous about relying completely on the VA for my health care.

It is hit and miss depending on location. I’d say if it looks like underground Los Angeles from the movie Demolition Man, use another facility.

I use them exclusively As stated above it’s hit or miss but has changed for the better since Trump took away their immunity from being fired It’s ok for keeping up with bloodwork but everything else I call to get a authorization code and go where I need to
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

I use them exclusively down here in Mobile. Only time I go outside of the VA is when the VA refers me to community care. I've been doing this way for about 11 years since I retired from the USCG. There are occasional times that the process gets slow for referrals, but I'm used to it by now. If I ever need to go straight to the community, I'll dust off my Tricare card.

I went to the one in Montgomery twenty years ago and left before I finished the paperwork. In that case it was easy to judge the book from its cover.

Typical government efficiency. I worked shifts in residency at one. I have a few patients that see both the Va and me as they see me for acute care stuff while the Va for their yearly etc. Like anywhere…some good and bad docs etc everything is slower than molasses though.
