To me diner implies more formality

Not true.

This ^^^.....I heard dinner used a lot on Sand Mt

I've lived most of my years on the Southern end of Sand Mountain and #3 is what most people around here use. We like it simple and if someone invites you to dinner, you don't know whether to show up around mid-day or around dusk. Are these Dinner folks from around the Yankee end of the mountain? grin

I dont know......maybe it was more with the Holiness folks......I think it originally came from the share croppers......It definitely wasnt a term used with the fancy crowd....I’m pretty sure I grew up in your backyard……Don’t you live just up the creek from Taint Much dam??

#3. But I do on occasion use dinner for lunch.
I do miss my Grandma's Sunday dinners and those were no later than 1 pm.

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

#3 at our house.
With older family members at their homes in South Alabama and Mississippi it's #1.

Brunch is for weekend's
Diner is a restaurant; not formal.

My depression era grandma raised us up on breakfast, dinner and supper. If you carried a midday meal to work she would tell you your lunch is packed.

Most of my kin in south Alabama say #1. Especially the older ones. I wonder why that is. I remember when I was in school they called it lunch and I was a little confused. 😂
