The law was there as the way that Jews could be Holy and Righteous before God. Obviously no one can keep the law, so the law pointed the Jews to Christ, as it was intended to do. So tithing will not make you holy in the eyes of God. But his promises associated with this command are still in affect. Christ coming and redeeming us did not abolish the promises of the Old Testament. That is my belief and understanding of it. No different than “Honor your father and mother” in the Old Testament. There are promises associated with that one too.


Ok. I will bite ( dang you Pwyse 😁). The Old Testament was not written for Christians. Christianity didn’t exist back then. The Old Testament was written too and only too the Jewish people. Therefore the Gentiles( all non Jews, including present day Christians) were not then and definitely not , at this present time, bound to any of the Laws written to the Jewish people in the Old Testament. How can you be bound to laws that weren’t written to you?

I will definitely give you this- many of the many commandments and laws given in the Old Testament are moral and wise and a person doing their best to live them would probably have good odds for a happy, successful life. But thats not the point of them. The point of them is one thing. To show that no man, short of God could ever follow them all perfectly. They were given to point out man’s sinful imperfection not as something for modern day Christians to live by.


Well you are correct that the Old Testament was written for God’s people. And you are correct the New Testament was written for God’s people. God’s intentions were for those people to be the same people, which were all of His creation. People in early Old Testament honored and loved God before the law was given to the Jews. Those people were still good in the eyes of the Lord. God chose the Jews to share the Gospel of Jesus to the rest of the world. Most Christians in the New Testament didn’t know they were Christians. They were just Jews that believed Jesus was the messiah. Now of course, God knew that just a small portion of Jews would accept Christ as the messiah.

So the Old Testament wasn’t written to only the Jews, it was written to God’s people. And don’t forget what “bound to the law” means. It doesn’t mean that we have to follow it. It means they had to follow it to be holy. We do in fact follow some of the law today. But it doesn’t make us holy. So it looks like by your definition of bound you just mean follow. But we do follow some of them. They are even our laws in government. The 10 commandments are part of the law. And we usually keep those today.
