My wife got me suckered into being a flag football coach. I no nothing about it. It’s 5 on 5 and it’s 9 to 10 year old kids. I know regular football. This is an all pass league. I think I’m in trouble. Anyone done this before? Advice.

Half back pass to the QB. At least 2-3 times a game. Speed is your friend.

Most of them play man under a single safety. Find out what the rush rules are and use it to your advantage. See if the QB can run when rushed. Use some man beater concepts. Run some traffic across the middle and one receiver against the flow. Natural rub route kind of thing. Everyone deep and have the outside guy run a shallow cross or short dig.
If a jet sweep constitutes a pass put that in if you have a speedy guy.

School played flag football for my son past two years.
Deep bombs and jet sweeps. They had five or six plays and just swapped sides. Which made it
10 or 12 plays. Sticks cause the fast one always gets the ball.
Defense. Was just stay in your lane. If the wall is built. They have to run by someone.

I helped coach but it was 6/7 year olds at the time. At that age misdirection was key for offense and like previously mentioned defense was stay in your zone (defense was the toughest because kids always had the tendency to follow whoever they lined up in front of instead of staying in their zone, then when the misdirection came back their way they had drifted of the zone following who they were lined up with). You can try man to man but if they have a matchup that doesnt go in your favor they will expose it and keeping going back to it. Hopefully at 9/10 the schemes will sink in with them and make it a little easier.

Did you have a parent meeting? I should have led with that. Let them know what the expectations are and what they can expect from you. Communication with them is key. Invoke a 24 hour rule if they want to talk to you about something that happened in a game.

So today I’m working with my offense all of a sudden I hear we don’t fight. WTF. Lo and behold it’s my son and another kid in a tussle. Well he hit me first. No he hit me first. Ok boys it’s do you wanna run till you puke? Play like a team you nut jobs. I walk away laughing.
