https://x.com/BehizyTweets/status/1896007823143928170BREAKING: President Trump just signed an Executive Order terminating all regulations & processes that delay the production of timber, lumber, paper, bioenergy, and other wood products.
It's time to cut trees and use them to make houses, & other things affordable again.
"The United States has an abundance of timber resources that are more than adequate to meet our domestic timber production needs, but heavy-handed Federal policies have prevented full utilization of these resources and made us reliant on foreign producers."

Canadian lumber is a better product than southern pine lumber. I hate it but it’s a fact Supposedly a big timber guy close to us bought a huge tract of land up in north Canada. Supposed to make buckets full of money off the timber. Come to find out, the government up there wouldn’t let them cut it. I’m sure he came out smelling like a rose on the deal but dang.

So what regulations were stopped? Just a guess on my part , but I'd say a couple would be opening up Federal lands to logging and relaxing regs on chemicals and EPA in manufacturing of timber products.

I sure hope the federal lands isn't the case. It worries me that we will start seeing national forests logged. If you want to own a pine plantation, that's fine. Public land shouldn't be touched. I'm a Trump supporter, but some of the environmental stuff is worrisome.

Inactive or passive management is not management at all, and does not help wildlife or the public. As with anything, it should be closely monitored and regulated, but not logging public lands in the south is a huge mistake IMO.

Maybe I'm wrong. I know that's your wheelhouseand I have no doubt you'd do what's right. The way they are cutting people and changing things, I could see it going bad, fast.

Matt, you think we will stop surveying the same National Forest tract over and over again?

When in NM Elk hunting in the Santa Fe National forest several years ago , there were massive Ponderosa Pines , with thousands of board feet in each one, old ,dying and falling into each other , a tangled mess. Then you'd hit a very small area that had been clear cut and the stumps were very small. I asked the guide, Bob , what was up with that , he said the Spotted Owl caused that timber management . That's about the time they said there were way more Spotted Owls than previous thought. It was all a ruse to save the old growth trees. But trees have a lifespan so instead of being harvested in their prime they were allowed to die of natural causes. Some wise timber / land management might help Cali's little fire problem too.

Hopefully this will kick in and align with my retirement so I can afford to build my little 1000-1200 sqft barndo on the cheap and with quality vs todays cost.

I don’t think the mills in the south have had production handcuffs from environmental factors in recent years - just filling the housing markets as needed with ebbs and flows.
