First one I bought about 6 years ago took 11 months to get approved. Just got one approved in 20 days. The system has greatly improved. (This is not due to Trump. The shorter wait times have been happening for a year or so now. )

I thought there was a hearing protection act that is likely to get passed or something of that nature. Maybe people aren't applying thinking they won't need to jump through all the hoops in the near future?

I don't keep up with it so I don't know the status of all this stuff.

They've teased the "Hearing Protection Act" or similar several times and it always goes tits up......they use it as a bargaining chip to get other stuff done instead. They know that it's a shiny object that gets enough attention to barter with, but it's not important enough to enough people to truly cause a lot of outrage when it doesn't go through.

I'm not holding my breath

They've been trying to get the HPA passed since 2015.... I'd say the chances are higher now than ever, but I still wouldn't hold my breath. The wait times were greatly improved when the eform system was revamped a couple of years back, I've heard of some forms getting turned around in less than a week! When I got mine they were still using manual paper applications and only had 12 inspectors approving them, but the use of suppressors was not mainstream then so there were far less applications.

writing this made me curious about the progression of the numbers, back in 2010 the ATF processed 91,000 applications, in 2023 they processed just over a million! biggest jumps were the last few years, 2021 was just over 500,000

Current wait times for a trust is 1-35 days. Ordered another last week so I’ll see.

Yall keep buying them. "Common use" is a thing that is being used to get them off NFA.

Electronic filing is the reason for the shorter wait times.

Sometimes just never come. I wouldn’t wait if I wanted another one. I hope you get to call me out on being wrong sooner than later, but I’d be surprised if that bill ever passes. It hasn’t twice already. I don’t know why they would now.
