I believe you are correct. Laws and statutes are being made based on conjecture and personal feelings, not facts

"The Dunning-Kruger effect hurts our society because it holds talented people back from unleashing their full capabilities. Meanwhile, those who are poor performers overestimate themselves the most and may be more likely to pursue leadership roles or other positions of power. Not only are overconfident individuals extremely resistant to being taught—since they believe they know the most—but they are also guilty of sharing the most information. When these individuals confidently announce their stance, we are more likely to believe them, regardless of whether or not the information is well-founded."

This has been going around higher Ed for years. It is how the educated refer to the plebs. You think you are smarter than you are because you hang around dumb people all the time. I always found it a little offensive and hypocritical, but it is how the general masses are viewed by many in the educated class.

The D-K effect prevents psychotic people from achieving positions of power too. Like Joseph Mengele did under Hitler because Hitler and the other Nazi's were power mad megalomaniacs. Fauci like Mengele is an example of somebody who is extremely smart and creative but are also full blown megalomaniac freaks with no regard for human life.
This is also the concern about Elon Musk. He is so hell bent on getting to Mars that the majority of his Tesla wealth comes from China. Also, his Space X wealth comes from Starlink which is also directing charged protons through our atmosphere at a rate nature never intended. Whenever you do something Nature never intended there is always a risk that could end up killing millions or more. Like controlled nuclear explosions and MRNA vaccines.

"The Dunning-Kruger effect is especially prominent in politics. Politicians who overestimate their expertise on complicated matters might push for overly simplistic solutions or ignore expert advice, leading to ineffective or harmful policies. This overconfidence is often reinforced by advisors and supporters who share their views. Meanwhile, qualified individuals might doubt their abilities and shy away from public service, missing opportunities to contribute. The effect also impacts voters, who may be swayed by confident candidates, regardless of their true competence. Acknowledging this bias in politics is essential for fostering informed decision-making and supporting capable leadership."
