Having your barrel threaded is no big deal, it's just getting expensive these days. A place I've used in the past went from $100 a year ago to $175 this week. That's a big discount on a whole 'nother rifle.
If I wanted a threaded Savage, I'd just buy one. That's assuming I didn't know a Smith who doesn't expect more than one shop hour to do a simple job.
