Ya'll are just looking at one piece of the puzzle and president Trump has only been on the job 3 weeks. You have to look at the bigger economic picture. Several things will factor in to offset the temporary labor cost increase. The so-called housing shortage was largely in part to millions of illegals invading our country in such a short period of time. Once we've reestablished our energy independence and removed regulatory roadblocks the price of gas, and more importantly diesel fuel, will come down. Cost of supplies and building materials will come down. DOGE has already found enough corrupt and wasteful spending to make a big dent in the deficit. I believe they'll eventually save enough to operate a balanced budget. I also believe president Trump has a plan to seriously reduce, or even eliminate income tax. Possibly property tax as well. Once foreign countries and importers are paying their fair amount of tariffs, that alone could eliminate the need for income tax. That's how this country was funded prior to income tax which was established in 1913. Legal immigration will be streamlined to allow productive and properly vetted immigrants to come in and help fill labor gaps. There's way more to this puzzle than just DOGE and ICE. Mexican's aren't working cheap. They're getting paid the exact same as Americans. I've worked around them for over 20yrs. Business owners rather hire them and pay them the normal rate over a white guy cause the Mexican will put perform everyone else.
I've seen quotes from illegals and they're pricing concrete jobs the exact same rates as white business owners.

This is what I know for a fact. They were building and selling homes in south AL and south MS at an incredible rate, even though the cost of the houses were inflated. In the last 6 months it had slowed somewhat. But in the last 2 weeks, these new neighborhoods are like a ghost town. Someone else made the comment in another thread and I replied that all was good down here… 2 days later it was not. There used to be 10 men framing a house now there is 3. Same with the other trades. It has slowed to a crawl and will eventually affect me and the company I work for. I hope it will somehow correct itself without me having to get another job. I think most economists say that if home construction comes to a halt, inflation will definitely go up. Which causes rates to go up. Which slows the economy. Slower economy means petroleum goes up. Someone commented that quality of work will increase when the American labor force gets back involved. It will not. The quality of American labor is so low that it will not do the job. I also believe that if you get able bodied people off of government assistance, crime will sky rocket. The people abusing that system aren’t simply going to go get a Labor job. And they don’t know how to do anything anyways. It requires a good work ethic to be a skilled or unskilled laborer. A 40 year old who has been on welfare for 20 years ain’t the guy for the job.

It may jump up…but..rip the bandaid off..wont be long before crews will get rebuilt an be back at it…an yes…got these lazy pos people off the government tit an put their butt to work This... as long as welfare allows freeloading able-bodied people to get by doing nothing, the immigration hit on industry will continue. They don't want to work, they haven't ever had to work, have no work ethic, no desire to work, they have tricked the system and figured out the little game. I know the answer to it as do you… but do we have the intestinal fortitude as a country to see it all through? I don’t think we do. For far too long far too many folks have made welfare a way of life.

The owner might be legal or illegal. Who knows? They have credentials including a tax ID number. This man may be bad wrong on Milroe (joke Pwyse), but he is dead on target on this one. That's exactly how it is working. If they raided Fairhope/south Baldwin area, they most likely hit the Horton, Holdiay, DSLD and other tract builders sites. Would be a goldmine for ICE and they'd have to have buses lined up for miles down I10 to load them all up. Pwyse is wise on this one. There is always one guy running the illegal labor. He's normally an immigrant too only he's got the right insurance, tax ID and proper licenses and is perfectly legal to conduct business. All these builder companies pay him directly (liability shield) and then he pays all the illegals. Nothing will happen to the real money players behind the illegal trade activity, the ones that are encouraging it and actually getting the product built by the illegals. El Jefe, will get a slap on the wrist. All his employees will be deported, and then El Jefe will close down the new company, start a brand new company with a similar name, with new illegal employees and those same national homebuilders will quickly contract with his new company and the game will continue.
