Doc,

You can catch coyotes. Problem is that you need the right gear (trapping hammer, sifter, lure, traps, anchors, etc.) I think I remember seeing some starter sets on some trapping supply websites. Get an auger bit that fits a cordless drill to make the dirt holes. Watch a video on how to night latch your traps and do that. K9 Extremes are already coated and don't need boiling and waxing. Plenty of online videos on making dirt hole sets. Look for road intersections with coyote tracks and set on these types of locations. CNC hit the nail on the head for coyote traps - learn how to bed the trap solid so that it does not rock if the edge is stepped on. I found my coyote catch rate went up when I put a a good spoonful of Pedigree dog food in the bottom of the dirt hole (not the chunky gravy type but the potted meat looking type) and the bait and lure on top of that. It is addicting. Good luck. I will be glad to come down in early April and go around very early in the morning and help you check the traps. smile

Hard to make sets in a mud hole
Half my DP’s were under water this morning
I’m pulling all traps tomorrow

I use chain on my anchors with a quick link to my trap chain
When I pull my traps I just use the quick link and leave my anchors and when next season comes I’ll hook up to them and remake my sets

I'm so sick of being in this machine shop. I'm pissed I didn't just load all my gear up and go just for a piece of mind this morning. I think tracking deer makes me go feral for a few months. Takes awhile to get back civilized 🤣

Finally gonna set my traps today. Hopefully will get 8 out. May be a bit of a challenge finding dry dirt
