He was at Alabama for 4 full yrs. Redshirted one, so yes he had a year of eligibility left, but his draft stock, as well as the heisman hype, had already started to head south around game 6 or 7 this past season. He will not go in the first round. Second is most likely where he'll go, if the Giants take him, but that will most likely work out terrible for him because based on what I am reading, he'll be forced into service very early which will not be good for him and his longevity in the league. He's, at best, a work in progress and his best hope is to get with a team that will give him years to develop in the program before having to take the reins. He is absolutely not NFL ready at this point, as a passer. Id' be almost willing to bet that his decision to declare was helped by the fact that he had most likely also been told by Deboer and staff, in his after season interview, that they were probably moving in another direction at QB next year. That left him with just two choices, transfer somewhere else where he most likely would not have the same caliber of supporting staff that he had at Bama, that saved his butt many many times with miraculous catches and plays on a lot of questionable throws. Or if he transferred and had another year next year, like he did this year, he might not get drafted at all. So his best option is to declare for the draft and go pro now, while there is still enough mystery about his play and freak athleticism, that a few NFL teams are still willing to think about rolling the dice on the chance that he can be developed into something. He supposedly looked really bad at the Sr. Bowl. Bad enough that the teams that were interested are now looking elsewhere? Overall it is a super weak QB class coming out so who knows, but it doesnt sound like it was pretty or that he helped himself in any way going to Mobile. It's a good thing that he won those multiple Nattys and heisman trophies you've been crowing about and promising/predicting since 2022.
