I know this should be in the gun forum but figured it would get more (and quicker) reaction here. So, school me on having a suppressor added to my .30-06. How much sound reduction will I achieve? Basically how loud is it going to be? What’s the process of acquiring one? Thanks
Edit: I may have an opportunity to start hunting some tracts around some rural neighborhoods and don’t want to rattle the people’s windows.

Weatherby should be along soon. He just put one on his 06. He can help with the details. It basically made it where you can shoot while hunting without hearing protection and not have the ringing.

I can't put a decibel number on it, but I feel like a decent suppressor makes a centerfire rifle sound more like a rimfire...more of a crack sound, rather than a boom.

It will be a good bit quieter, especially if it's a bolt gun. You're still shooting a super sonic bullet so you're going to have that crack, but it's much easier on the ears. The process now is as simple as it's ever been. Find a shop with a kiosk and go fill out the paperwork and pay the $200 tax stamp

Definitely takes the loud boom out of the shot. Also reduces recoil. I’ve got several bolt guns that are about as loud as a .22 LR.
SilencerShop kiosk will be the best way to do it. You can buy it on their website, choose your nearest dealer and do the stuff you need on their website kiosk. Easy peasy.

We need to PUSH Trump on this. Make suppressors legal for single shot rifles or bolt action hunting rifles. Once people learn the gun doesn't go Pffft, they can be expanded.

Nope. Too late for the ear ringing. Both of mine ring constantly and loud enough that I wonder why other folks can't hear it.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

Banish 30 claims 34 decibels reduction on a 308. Never measured it myself but I can shoot 7mag with it comfortably without earplugs. Recoil reduction is a big plus. Only thing is they can be a little unwieldy on a hunting rifle in a long action caliber that need a little more barrel. With a 24” barrel and the banish 30 full length it’s like toting an oar into the field.

Agree on all counts I’ll most likely not hunt without a suppressor anymore. Too easy to screw one on in place of the Boss on my old Browning.

Hearing safe from a box blind.
Wouldn't go to the range to dial in a scope without ear pro, but love hunting with them!

I don’t shoot without a suppressor. Same. When I started buying suppressors I really started to hate shooting unsuppressed guns.

My neighbor has one on a .308 , it sounds like a .22 mag or .22 stinger round. I'm not a fan of the added weight and length for my use . However , they do have their place for many applications.

i can tell you this, an AR-pistol is still a loud SOB with a suppressor. Sound reduction on autos is not as good, unless you get a suppressor with flow through technology. Also, shorter barrels can be loud. I changed suppressors on my M&P 10 in 308 and made a considerable difference in both sound and back flow.
