Primary reason is food. We eat about a half dozen +/- each year.
Secondary reason is my wife has hit several. I kill every deer I see on my home place. Those blame deductibles add up. Also, I kinda like the wife.
Tertiary is proving my scouting right. You can take pics and watch all you want, but you didn't beat that old deer until it's on the tailgate.

I hunt for the rush and excitement of it. This is why I’ve gotten more into bow hunting the last few years.

But I have really enjoyed learning and applying the management part. It’s a lot of fun and like some have said here, if a buck reaches his full potential and I helped get him there that is satisfying.

I hunt because it a way of life for me . Been hunting since I could walk . Why I kill deer nowadays is mostly to eat . Don’t need any more horns but I will only kill a mature buck . Was raised thinking a crime to shoot does . I never shoot a doe . It’s a momma deer in my eyes . . I spend almost every day of my life in the woods either working or hunting. I love being in the woods especially by myself . Even my last name is Wood.

The meat obviously but in my opinion there isn't much that is a better rush than outsmarting a buck in his backyard. Especially older bucks.

I hunt for the experience. The horns are a by product. The meat is a by product. I get more enjoyment killing a small buck in front if my hounds than a decent buck sitting in a shooting house. It cost me the same to hunt if I put 4 deer in the freezer or none. If you look at it that way, the meat saves me money. Except for a couple steaks once a month or less, I don't buy any beef.

It's pretty easy to talk myself out of it. But hunting is just one of the things I do because it's a vital sign. I have a pulse, I have blood pressure, respiratory function and I go hunting.

Don't make me do a Forest Gump and Bubba scene on deer meat....My number one answer....me and my brothers learned to hunt to eat and survive..... some patty sausage,, a few link sausages ,,,,,, but mostly the pure meat is what I crave most.... you can prepare it so many ways and it's all good.

I just don't kill them anymore.
