Even if she has assets , it's hard to get at them in Alabama, if she has insurance and even if it's maxed out . That's why un/under insured insurance is so necessary in Alabama. The way Alabama's system is set up , you can't count on the other guy.

Underinsured coverage only covers injury, doesn't cover the vehicle or trailer. Most policies have built in coverage for a trailer, but it's usually like $500, which doesn't help the OP.

That's my thoughts as well. If a person has assets to protect, they should carry more than the minimum required insurance. So minimum insurance I would guess means little to no assets

I upped it for this very reason. Two kinds of people in this world….

I did the same last year. I did it because vehicle prices are ridiculous and in the chance someone gets hurt, medical bills ain't cheap either. 25/50/25 won't go far.

“Auto accident attorney needed”

Mr. Longtine,

You failed to mention any bodily injuries that you may have received in the accident, therefore I assume there weren’t any and for that reason I am out.

It's amazing that the minimum liability coverage is only $25,000 in Alabama. That won't buy a used Yugo these days.

That's the truth , along with Alabama's goofy tort and insurance laws , doing the right thing can cost you more than the one at fault. Trust me on that , been there done that. cry

I bumped our coverage up a few years ago because when we changed providers I could get more coverage for a little less money. We carry 300/500/100 now on our vehicles.

We went through it last year, guy rear ended one of our wreckers at 100mph plus. Loaded wrecker was doing about 50mph. He had $25k standard, damage was $200k. Of course he was dead so it was worse for him but my insurance had to cover pretty much everything. I was told they wouldn’t even attempt to recover the balance on underinsured, wasting time and money

I dont see how anybody can get by with $25k worth of insurance.....thats a fender bender nowadays. My wife supposedly ran a light a few months back and ended up in a wreck that was her fought so our insurance paid for everything. After seeing about 3 more wrecks at that same light i got to watching it and the light would go yellow for just a second and then one turn green and the other turn red at the same exact moment. Stayed that way for months with multiple wrecks and they just adjusted it recently to turn red before the other side turned green. Lots of money spent in the last year due to that light being off a few seconds.

OP’s underinsured motorist coverage should extend to his trailer and protect above the $25k. PS if you don’t have underinsured / uninsured motorist you should it is super cheap d worth every dime.
