They’ve been doing it for years, but I’ve never gone. They’re a bit rulesy though. It’s catch and release only until springtime, fly fishing only, must use barbless hook and you have to buy a permit from city hall in addition to fishing license . Would like to go sometime to see what it’s like, but I really enjoy fishing the Sipsey Fork.

Thats a good point, madison County PFL also has trout stocked in the winter. there is a daily permit fee but at least you're allowed to keep some fish.

If i go trout fishing, im going with bait on a barbed hook and im bringing a mess home to eat. I probably wouldnt fit it up there. I dang sure aint going to the city hall to ask if i can go fishing.

We were in Gatlinburg this past weekend for a Youth Group conference and we had a few hours of free time Sunday afternoon. Me and a few of the high school boys were walking around downtown and we could see some monster trout in the river in downtown. Next year we’re taking some little collapsible rods and fishing for our free time

This is one of the most bonehead things that a city in Alabama has done. I publicly opposed the introduction as its an invasive species stocked on top of an already incredibly biodiverse sportfishing opportunity. Redeye bass, panfish, and many nongame species. They just didn't have the trout that the local fly anglers are so in love with, and they were tired of driving to GA or TN, so they put them there. Also they are blinded by potential money and benefit to the town.
Many will argue that there is no issue due to the trout not surviving through the warmer months. On the surface that sounds good, but what do they do in the meantime? Compete with native fish species for already limited food resources, introduce disease, directly predate on native fish young and eggs during reproductive periods, and many other issues. This is all very well documented in the scientific literature, but they went forward and have continued to do it.
You don't have to fish for trout to fly fish, and if you want trout, go to where the trout are. Don't ruin another pristine Alabama waterway.

Troutbum, youre probably right about Noccalula falls but they destroyed the sipsey river when they built Smith lake dam. Stocking it with trout was about the only thing they could do for it.

What a shame to ruin a native stream with those slimy things. I agree with JWalker that they might as well stock them in the Sipsey as it's now the most unnatural environment in the state. Trout are about the only fish that could do well in it. I saw in an article in the Treasure Forest magazine where the foresters were making predictions about what the state will be like 100 years from now. One of them predicted that the dama on the Coosa and Tallapoosa will be removed and both will be free flowing again. Wish I could live long enough to see all the fun of that happening.

That's a whole different scenario, which is why I didn't bring it up. While I don't necessarily advocate for it, I do understand the cost/benefit of adding trout to that system. Plus it feeds the stripers.

We need to write in AU trout bum and Mbrck for a seat on the DCNR board as consultants if we could ever vote on it.
They understand better than most. "Most" being the dipsh!TZ that have mucked up our states land and waters for the almighty dollar.
Chuckie Sykes reign has been a poo-poo show in my opinion.

Trout snobs are the worst. I love microlight trout fishing. 7 inch fish is bait but perhaps I am wrong. I love the folks with the skill of fly fishing but my preferred style is challenging also.
