mbrock...what is the biological reason for a 3 month rifle season and season running into feb for north bama? There’s not one. Politics. I fought it while employed by DCNR and told them I wasn’t in favor of it because the data didn’t support it. I was told to stand down and keep my mouth shut. Ironically the first year it was implemented I got calls from Montgomery about some of the issues they were seeing after they passed it. At the time I didn’t say too much but I was sitting there thinking “Give me a break. I told you this would happen and I was told to shut up.” The biology screams don’t do it. Heck, the hunters up here don’t even support it. For the most part they hate it. Processors hate it. Yet here we are. Bottom line they were willing to sacrifice the whole state to erroneous regulations in order to get game check. It was a trade off. It’ll never go back now. Heck I’m in favor of closing rifle season around Jan 15-20 in most of north and central AL but that would never fly.

With those high powered, silent killing, capable of multiple shots on one stupid deer, high power bows that can kill a deer to a 100 yds out there a good bowhunter can quietly shoot as many as they want. What deer stands a chance? A good quiet accurate bow hunter could be as much deadly or more deadly on deer than a not accurate gun hunter. Can't hear them shoot at night either. Probably a thermal for a bow now out there. A dead deer is dead, regardless.

Rifles maybe??? SXS, four wheelers, warm cloths, bragging rights on social, game check showing which area to hunt. Clubs that are great to hang out at all weekend. Worst than duck commander. New show firing up Buck commander it’s happening. And then again social my bucks bigger than yours. Yes if I kill the one I’m after you’ll see the pics.

rifles definitely changed the scene for deer hunting. With shotguns and their limited range a LOT of big bucks were seen but not killed. With SCOPED RIFLE IF YOU CAN SEE HIM YOU CAN KILL HIM.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
