mbrock...what is the biological reason for a 3 month rifle season and season running into feb for north bama? There’s not one. Politics. I fought it while employed by DCNR and told them I wasn’t in favor of it because the data didn’t support it. I was told to stand down and keep my mouth shut. Ironically the first year it was implemented I got calls from Montgomery about some of the issues they were seeing after they passed it. At the time I didn’t say too much but I was sitting there thinking “Give me a break. I told you this would happen and I was told to shut up.” The biology screams don’t do it. Heck, the hunters up here don’t even support it. For the most part they hate it. Processors hate it. Yet here we are. Bottom line they were willing to sacrifice the whole state to erroneous regulations in order to get game check. It was a trade off. It’ll never go back now. Heck I’m in favor of closing rifle season around Jan 15-20 in most of north and central AL but that would never fly.
