I always swore when I bought my own property I would manage the wildlife and my trigger finger a lot better than I did growing up, and the guys in clubs I’ve been a part of… I’ve been here 6 years and have done just that… I’ve killed some older deer that weren’t very big, killed several doe and my son has killed one small buck. I’ve had very few good deer come through. Neighbors kilt one, other neighbor kilt one, I’ve kilt one… but every year I have a pile of smaller racked bucks on camera. It’s the same dang story every freaking year, they die before it’s over. And you get the same story if I wouldn’t have shot him, so n so would… “you gonna mount it?” “No he ain’t as big as a few I’ve got mounted?” Then don’t gripe and grumble bc you don’t have any decent bigger bucks to shoot…

I know I know, shoot what tickles your little pickle… fine by me, but quit busting balls about “no mature deer” in your neighborhood …

Boy did I figure out real quick 100 acres ain’t spit with neighbors like I got…

Had this conversation a dozen times in the last week with others who are fed up with it. Nobody I’ve talked to is trying to tell anyone how to hunt either. They just want common sense to come in to the equation and ppl to logically come to the conclusion of when to stop killing. It seems the smaller the parcel the more bucks ppl think they should kill because that’s all they have to hunt and must kill them because they’re there. I don’t get it either.

But you can’t talk about it or you’re a spoiled crybaby. Cell cams and bait have changed the game gents. Buckle up cause they’re going to keep killing them.

I know folks with very large tracts, multiple times larger than 100 acres, who can’t produce a deer of any age. It all started changing with feeders and cams.

It’s a difficult situation. I let a deer walk not too long ago, then regretted not killing him. Then I thought to myself, I probably would have regretted it when I walked up to him too. So I’m ok with it. I just hope he survives and maybe I can get a crack at him next season.

Ain’t nothing u can do I have only a couple landowners around me and beginning of fall I pick out the 2 yr olds with nice tall racks but thin racks cause they young that they will shoot and sure nuff they get dead. They also have better deer on the wall. I don’t understand why it’s done if that’s the case but again it’s a free country. I’ve shot 1 on my property and he was a good buck and I know was 5. How he made it that long I’ll never know.

Every time I hear a shot I assume another 2 year old just dropped. The property im hunting doesn’t have a ton of deer on it. There have been 2 obviously mature bucks and 6-7 1.5-2.5 year olds on it. Not a single deer I would think is a 3 year old on the property. Ive probably let every racked buck the property has walk in the last 30 days aside from the 2 bigger deer (I can’t get in front of those to save my life). I know there aren’t that many deer in the area I hunt, it’s common knowledge but that doesn’t mean a shot doesn’t go off essentially every day as of late. Any buck with a little bone on his head is fair game to the dip shits that surround us. It’s beyond frustrating not to have decent neighbors.

Ive got it good my friends kid killed my up and coming 3yo but it's his biggest to date. I've got 120 ac in the middle of some great neighbors and can have quality deer. I've killed some good ones and I've seen some quality young ones go away it is what it is but if we can have deer like this every year I'm OK with that only if it's just one or two. My friend that I talk with daily that doesn't get to hunt as much hunts the land next to me is coming down this weekend and I'll tell him where I think this bad boy is crossing we share pics with each other through out the year and I'm gonna do my best to put him on him because I've had 5 days and didn't get it done. The mature ones are there they are just hiding. What's his weight and score and age?

We hunt 4 small properties in about 2 square miles. Seems like everybody around here hunts. Some killgood bucks, some kill anything with horns, soe kill everything because farmers ask them too, might have depradation permits. Its sure enough crazy around here. Also rural area thats becoming more populated all the time. Quite a few deer around here but theyre nocturnal and theyve been around people all their life. Theres no hope of management. We just do the best we can. I sure would hate to have to drive an hour or more to hunt.

This is my first season deer hunting in 20 years. The last deer I shot was in was in 2004 if I remember correctly. I’ve hunted 30 days in a row at this point and haven’t pulled the trigger. I don’t feel like the property I’m hunting nor the surrounding properties have the numbers for me to justify killing anything other than the 2 mature bucks I’ve got on camera. If I get lucky enough to kill one of those deer then so be it. I don’t get the vibes from the neighbors they worry too much about killing mature deer at all. It makes it even worse that everyone owns 50-100 acres in this area. Nothing I can do but bitch but I can guarantee anyone that if I can go this long without killing anyone can do it. I watched a tank of a 6 point for 10-15 minutes today, he was probably 100 inches already and I bet he didn’t weigh much over 100lbs. What could be if the neighbors don’t get eyes on him.

I watched this one this afternoon feed for an hour with 5 does

I don’t need anymore meat this year and a friend wants to hunt him with a bow Saturday

We are lucky to have a large tract to hunt with 2/3rds of it protected by the river

I don’t see how this deer would make it to this age on a small tract [Linked Image]
