I had 2 different instances where I thought I needed their assistance. Both times I wound up doing all the investigating myself and both times I found the perps and turned the info over to the investigators. The first time they did nothing because it was one of their own who was responsible and the second time they did nothing because they already had the person on other charges. I learned that calling the law limited my options for justice by putting the incident on record. I haven't made that mistake again in 20 years since even when I had a series of break ins years ago.

I tell this to people all the time. The police officer or Deputy takes the initial report and investigation. Once he/she finishes that part it’s turned over to the Detectives, I go back to my regular Patrol duties. Most agencies only have a couple detectives and they are way backed up on cases and felony cases are put to the front of the line. I tell them it’s best to try to do your own investigation and either turn it over to detectives or handle the justice part yourself. Don’t wait on us!!
