What are you guys shooting out of them for whitetail in AL and FL? I noticed switching from 139 grain Weatherby factory ammo to 154 grain Hornady I had a lot less bang flops. Thinking of going back to 139 grain Weatherby factory ammo as heavier Hornady 154 grain ammo is not leaving the blood trails and instant kills I used to consistently get. I’m thinking the 139 grain factory is going to be faster and deadlier. Thinking of going back to it.

Good luck! Unless you can find some new old stock somewhere, they stopped selling the 139gr factory ammo. The only choices now in a Weatherby factory box are 140gr TTSX, 146gr Hammer, 150gr Scirocco, 154gr Interlock.

Lightweight accubonds or partitions. That’s for a 7mag, but would only assume they would work even better in that hot rod.

Those heavier bullets don't start expanding good till about 200 yards on deer. Way it was with my BIL 7mm stw. They just moving so fast

The 154 interlock works good in my 7 mag . I've killed a pile of deer with them

Why don't bullets expand at higher velocity?

I’ve heard that for decades now. I think it’s more of bullet blowing up and just the core making a small exit hole.
That’s been my experience shooting my 7mm stw 140 gr ballistic tips running close to 3500 fps. Shot a doe pretty close one time and found pieces of the jacket thruout her inerds and far side hide. Looking at her as a small butane and exit hole. Killed you’re the same way but I didn’t cut him open. His buddy dropped at little over 400 yards and had a hole as big as your fist.
Killed one buck a little over a 100 yards and hit him in the spine. Looked like a shark had taken a bite out of him.

140 TTSX work great out of my accumark, shoot 5/8” groups at 100 and are rough on anything they touch. They are expensive, and kick like a mule, shot several thorough lab rad before my elk trip and were shooting 3200fps with excellent SD.

I bet the 140 TTSX and the 150gr Scirocco would both be bad news for any animal hit

I have to look but I think I still have about 4 boxes of the 139 grain hoarded away. I’ll check out the 140 grain as well. Funny how they change over the years. Used to make 175 grain and a 140 Nosler which had a cool looking box. Only one the haven’t changed is the 154 spire point which I’ve been using. Off to the range to check zero with 139 grain I have left. Thanks.

My question was a little tongue in cheek.

I'm expecting some kind of answer like "the bullet is traveling so fast it doesn't have time to expand ", which is one of the dumbest BS myths on the innerwebs.

I've actually shot a few deer with the 154 gr Interlock out of my 7 mm RM.

Dead deer every time..

I just noticed a lot more blood with the lighter load than 154grain. Shot a doe recently at last light with with about 5 minutes to spare and caught her a little high just behind the shoulder. Didn’t have big exit and no blood for first 30 yards. Dead within 100 yards. My friend’s dog found the blood trail. Walking back we saw some blood but wasn’t like I’ve seen in past from a big exit. There was bubbles in the blood so I caught a lung but to not have a big exit hole and lots of blood on the ground makes me question switching back to 139 or 140 smaller round I always got good blood trails or DRT.

really have no idea . i just saw a lot of dead deer from a 7 stw . the heavier bullets just dont . the rem 140grain core lokt seemed to work really well .

ive killed around 100 or so with two different 7 mags . id stay with the Hornady 154 . i didnt care for the 139s . course i lost only one deer using a 7mag , deer ran off a bank into a flooded roaring creek

AU338MAG , i really dont pay much attention to the experts or most on the web . i go by all the deer ive gutted or help gut over the years .

Not a 7mm Weatherby, but my Elk thumper is a 7MM WSM . I shoot 140 gr NBTs and they are bad medicine for shorter range Elk. I've shot two bulls and one whitetail with them and all have been one shot kills , 2 bang flop. Of those listed above , I bet those 140 gr TTSX would be bad medicine also if they'll shoot in your rifle.

When I was shooting the BLR 7mag, I’d shoot the old Winchester silver tips. I think they were 140s or 160s. Either way they were extremely hard on a whitetail. Way to much damage if you happen to hit them in the shoulders. They wouldn’t move but you had to throw half the deer away. I still regret getting rid of that rifle but my buddy wanted it bad and I was young dumb and broke!!!

Max Point Blank Range shooting 160 grain bullets would be just over 300 yards. A 140 is maybe 330 yards. Because it loses velocity and energy faster.

I don't know why anyone would shoot 140 grain bullets. Out past 300 yards I'd want a heavier bullet.... Why would you not want a heavier bullet? Anyone who answers otherwise is FOS.

Between 0-330 yards what did you accomplish? Nothing. That's the answer.

I had only one deer run from being with my 7mm stw. First generation siroccos 150 grain. They were thick walled and designed for heavier game like elk. Nailed him 3 times and he went to the ground and came back up. All were thru the boiler room but he was dogging a hot doe and I guess he was worked up.

All others killed with the 140gr bt and they were dead before they dropped. Literally watched the bullet hit before the sight picture recoiled upward. My other guns never saw actually bullet hits. Killed deer out past 450 with both STW and 256Wthby. Shot 115 grains out of and never had a deer drop in its tracks. Usually made it 20 yards or so. Both calibers I used the Winchester BT lubalox coated black silver tips.

My 300 WSM I shot 150 gr accubonds and all deer dropped in their tracks with it.
