What’s your preference, Polaris or Can Am?

Choices:
Polaris XP, six seater
Can Am HD9
Can Am HD10

What you planning on doing with it?

If money wasn’t an issue, I’d take a brand new crew cab expedition northstar and turn it in to an extended cab expedition northstar. The extended cab for guns, tools, dog or whatever.

I have a crew cab ranger northstar now and I like it but an extended cab would suit me better.

Hunting.

Moving near walls of Jericho, so the bulk of my hunting is going to be in the mountains and trails are more than I want to take my truck on. I was looking at getting a jeep but wife wants a UTV so we can trail ride at her parents which will be nearby.
Looking at the six seaters, but we don’t have North Star money for the doors and all that stuff.

Ranger 1000 premium six seater.

The UForce looks interesting, but I’m not sold on them yet.

Expedition crew is 5 seats if you can make do with that. It’ll be throat comfortable ride in my opinion. If it was strictly hunting, Ranger crew or hd10

Why is this? I’m about to buy a premium with the power steering and upgrade the tires for a lot cheaper than xp

Debating this as well…buddy loves his can am…we just have a Polaris dealer right here. I can’t justify paying a lot more for the can am though I tend to like them a bunch. I’d go hd9. Don’t need the 10 and don’t go the 7. We are about to buy the Polaris ranger 1000 premium and put larger tires on it. Comes out cheaper than the xp and it’s a lil quieter from what I’ve been told. I wouldn’t go 6 seater unless your ok with a massive turning radius hunting wise

Premium is SOHC and XP is DOHC with about 21 plus more Horsepower

The models below the XP also have a chain drive reverse, a lighter duty drivetrain and smaller axles.
The XP engine air intake and belt air intake are located under the hood which helps in deep water.
There’s a difference in price for those reasons. A lot more to it than just an “XP” sticker.

Beginning in 2021, the XP models use the same drivetrain components, axles and ball joints as the old High Lifter models.

I bought the ranger premium last year and I love it man. I got a 100 hours of trouble free use and it has plenty of power. I also couldn't justify spending over 3000 more dollars for the XP model. I switched to the ranger from the Sportsman 1000 xp and yes that power is nice but you don't need it

Didn’t know that about the chain reverse. I too got the premium crew and added my own winch, light bar, sound bar/sub.

It’s been rock solid for me. We love it.

Good to know. I knew there was the extra horse etc but back to the OPs and my question…for hunting and just driving around purposes, is it worth the money etc? I don’t plan on doing any muddying or trail riding really as it seems the OPisnt either.

I've love my can am - buddies at the camp like the way it rides and handles --- I got the defender hd10 - plenty of power even in eco mode. Yep, it has different modes for gas consumption -- I got the 6 seater.

unless something has changed recently, only the northstar has a gear to gear reverse. everything else is chain

Thanks all. Leaning towards the Can Am since I haven’t seen much negative on them, but still looking at Polaris. I think I’m going to take the XP1000 for a drive and see how it compares.

If I go can am, I think I’m going to go HD10 for the extra height. I don’t need it for 90% of what I’ll be driving but In-laws have a trail on their property that will need it. Father in law has a teryx with a 2” lift and barely clears the spot.

Dont think you will go wrong with either. I think the biggest thing is maintaining whatever machine you decide. Keep it greased and all the fluids changed and it should last.

Currently have a Can Am HD10 Limited. Have had three Ranger 1000xp prior to. Out of the three Rangers, I only had an issue with one and I believe it was self inflicted. I like the seating better in the Can Am along with the AC/Heat (wife had to have that), but you really can’t go wrong with either. The only reason I went Can Am this time was because the cab noise was quieter than in the Northstar/Expedition Polaris models.

Can Am is my recommendation, based on reliability, quietness, comfort....and reliability.

Know in advance that the crew length is not nimble in the woods.
