Accuweather , Weather Bug and Weather Channel don't show anything lower than 15 for the next 10-14 days for us.

Today's run on the GFS model is interesting for Tuesday, January 7. Sleet and snow for much of the state. I know, it is a model run and a long way out. Our Marengo county deer did not like the snow last year.

Think it was 2011 or 12 when everything froze over here. Stayed below freezing for 3 days at least. That’s what gets pipes. They never fully thaw.

Recent research suggests there is no significant increase in deer activity during cold weather. But, there is a large increase in hunter activity typically which leads to more people seeing deer and telling people they saw deer. Edit to add: That research won’t stop me from also being in the woods during a cold front

I can promise you one thing, because I've seen it, or didn't see anything actually, but I've hunted deer several times in a place that I can always see deer, and Central Alabama deer freak out when it snows and won't budge from where they are hunkered down. I won't do it again. I'd rather build snowmen with some kids and have snowball fights than sitting in a shooting house and see nothing.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I have done the same thing several times and froze to death and didn’t see nothing. Came home and when it thawed out deer were on the move

They will be on the move then. That is when I want to be in the stand. Rain or snow, if it is a front, I want to be there when it quits and that cold, north/northwest wind kicks up. A bonus is when they are making scrapes because Ole Bucky is going to make his rounds to freshen that scrape after a rain.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I believe there's less hunters up in the woods up here when it gets down near single digits . Down around 15 and lower is cold up here, real cold , unless in a heated shooting house and you don't find those in the woods. Then there's the whole corn pile angle, when it's single digits that's where the activity is. It's like shooting deer in a barrel.
