Looks like around January 10th we'll be looking at -3 degrees and several inches snow in central alabama. If the low moves across the state along the coast it'll likely give us 7-8 inches of snow.

If you are basing things off weather predicted that far out you do not watch the weather often in Alabama. I do not trust the weatherman to get it correct the next day anymore much less a couple weeks out, but we are about due a little snow.

Weather models are wrong at least 50% of the time for the next hour or tomorrow around here. I take anything more than 3 days out as info-tainment.

All the weather nerds are starting to get a little excited with the “polar vortex” and brutal cold weather. Some are saying the coldest temps in a decade. I remember in early January of 2018 the pond at the camp froze thick enough we could walk on the ice on the edge. I want cold weather in January but not that dang cold.

-3 in Central AL would end civilization as we know it.

I'm not getting my hopes up though.

They are pretty well all in agreement very cold temps are coming and some are saying it could be coldest winter temps we’ve had in the eastern US in many years. Wintry precipitation is still in the air, but the temps are definitely coming.

Back ten or so years ago there was one winter once January got here it’s stayed in the teens and twenty’s for lows for what I can remember like a month. Mud holes were frozen solid duck ponds were frozen solid the deer eating the grass was like them eating popsicles. It was hard hunting for sure because they could hear you coming a mile away because all the leaves everything was frozen.

That was the 10/11 season I believe. We were hunting by Georgiana and I think it was 17 days it didn’t get above freezing. We had set 3 275 gallon totes to catch rain water. All 3 of them froze solid. We put our fire pit close to them and had a fan blowing the heat on one so we have water to flush toilets and wash dishes. First time I’d ever seen the mud spew up. Man that was cold.

Better get your pipe insulation and fittings now. Probably won’t be any next week.
