I have to laugh at some of these choices 😂🤣😂🤣
I was thinking the same. One, none of them are what I consider small towns. Not a single one. They’re thriving metropolises. They’re larger cities compared to my small towns. I couldn’t do any of them. Way too much for me. 😂 Yup. Some nice small cities mentioned here but they're well beyond small town status. Any town with more than 2 or 3 stoplights aint small b

William -- You are really missing something in Demopolis! Has a great shopping areas, lots of restaurants, great hunting, great fishing, and easy to get around. Also has a hospital. I don't live there, but do hunt around there. I haven't been in years, but I spent a lot of time hunting the river. Good friend of mine lives up near the steam plant on the river. We'd go hunting every year from the time I was 20 until my 40's. There was never much to do or places to eat down there besides the Red Barn and the place in Faunsdale. There certainly wasn't anything in Greensboro or anywhere else close to there.

Sitting here about 2 hours from the Canadian border and my MIL (who is awesome) is wearing a Andalusia, Alabama t-shirt. So, that must be her vote. She is a big Brenda Gantt fan and has gone down to stay there a couple times. I just finished my Brenda Gantt biscuits. As you boys would say, "They are of some count."

Autaugaville has a great garden district, you can smell the flowers all over town and the shooting range is in anyones front yard you choose at any hour you like. Great for the night vision/thermal shooter. Lots of entertainment venues that really get hopping with classical rap and gangster melodies. For the gear head we have the local drag strip that opens up around midnight on hwy 14 every Saturday Night. Time trials are on Friday night. Fisherman have the state dock on Woodruff that they can slide thier boat and vehicle off into the river easily with it's 65 degree, 100 yard long ramp. We have it so good the part time police force all quit to enjoy the bright future of the town without work getting in the way. A true paradise! The paper mill aroma….you forgot the paper mill aroma when the environmental conditions are favorable.
You're only as good as your worst shot-

It will be on the north side of Selma. Not only is South of Selma basically all of Cahawba its also a low large flood delta. The North side is more geologically manageable. Also the bridge crossing areas with the ACOE are totally owned. South of 80 the good crossing approach areas are not Federally claimed yet, and they are bigger and more of them. The biggest expenses with interstates are bridges and exits. Even a short 50 foot bridge requires a lot of extra engineering and money. Thanks for the info, but not what I was hoping to read. The straightest shot from Lowndesboro to the junction of 80 and I-20 would be to stay well south of Selma and cross the river below Cahawba. They are gonna have to go almost directly north for a ways to get around Selma if they are going north of the fair city, and it's gonna add 15 or 20 miles to the route. But like Jawbone, I will be long dead before it happens so I am not worrying about it. William, as much as you like the canoe, I thought you would want to stay above the fall line. The creeks below it just aren't as interesting to me. I can't believe nobody has suggested Marion as a great place to live.

I'll throw my little hometown of Andalusia in the mix. A lot of river float fishing available in the area and some decent restaurants. We might be down there next month. I found a loft AirBnB downtown and we are planning on doing the Yellow River. I wanted to go this month for the Christmas stuff yall do, but the wife got busy and we couldn't make it. Need a place or two to get a beer and some can't miss eateries if there are any. Looks like there was a local steak chain place. Perhaps a catfish place? The choice was Andalusia/Opp/Florala. Not much in either of those two places. William we have Daivd's Catfish House (Fish & Shrimp), Big Mike's (Steak) and Lost Pizza are few of the local places we eat. Someone opened The B Pub in town for Beer and Big Mike's has a nice bar area. I have never been to The B Pub but showing 5 star reviews on their Facebook page. As you mentioned the town does Candyland during Christmas that seems to be a big attraction. Andalusia has way more stuff than Opp and Florala. Opp use to have one fine little seafood restaurant called Bar's. It's been closed for a long time now but I sure miss eating at that place. Andalusia is a fine little town, I think you will find the rural setting you are looking for with plenty of things to do within a reasonable drive.

Can't believe nobody else mentioned Bessemer. Dang.
Seriously, I'd be considering Riverside. Close enough to Pell City for things to do, eat, shop, etc. and just far enough away to be small atmosphere. Lake is right there too, if you wanted to fish. It's high on my list but for reasons I don't care to get into, I doubt it will happen for me. Sometimes God steers us a different direction.

That one little spot just north of Repton and east of Monroeville. I have that spot right on the Burnt Corn 👍🏼. Another south outside Uriah on the Little River. “Refresh yourself in Jesus” What you know about Little River and Uriah? 🤣

When Repton & Uriah are the nearest small towns (there is no town 😂🤣😂🤣) you know you are in the right spot 🤣😂🤣. You can head to the Big City of Frisco City from there 😂🤣😂🤣

Ain't no where I've been better than right here in brierfield on 25. You're less than an hour from bham,Montgomery, tuscaloosa,Chelsea, pell city.I can be at Logan Martin, bankhead,Mitchell, holt, Alabama river, lay and Jordan in less than an hour. Several places to eat and two grocery stores in montevallo. It's probably as centrally located as you can get Went to the ironwork park there. I live in hwy 25 I'm almost exactly two miles from where you turn off 25 onto the road the ironworks park is on. Damn you live in that huge mansion up on the hill with all the tall pines out there? Man what a property.

I wish a lot of the new people would leave my small town. Cullman is getting to be a pain in the butt to drive around. I wish these dang Yankees would go back to where they came from!! Yep! Too big and busy.

Seminole!
No traffic light, Gas Station, Dollar General, Mechanic Shop, and a Fudge/Ice Cream shop. Right on Styx River.
And 5 minutes from the big town of Beulah!
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.
