You can put the meter on it anytime and see if the resistance is within spec. I use a program called ForScan for my Fords. It's on my phone. When I connect to the bluetooth code reader I use, I can run various tests like they do at the Dealership. It does cost you a few bucks a year, but it's well worth it.
