Went on a pretty fun one tonight…….Buck was hit low behind the shoulder…..It was high enough to be fatal but just low enough that it was gonna take the deer awhile to die…..The hunter lost blood after about 150 yards…..We picked up on the trail and jumped the deer another 150 yards from where they lost it…..Once we got him up he started putting out more and more blood until eventually I think it just did him in and he got too weak to go any further……..

I’ve said this before but its worth saying again today…..I’m pretty sure that I’d be better off throwing my pistol at the deer and hoping to hit it in the head than wasting bullets shooting at it…… grin

Are you holding it sideways at arms length?

Tracked a deer for a guy you know yesterday CNC in Mentone. I really think the deer is fine though. Went from Madison County, Mentone and Stevenson yesterday. Tracked the one in Madison 1,300 yards before the dogs couldn't do anything else. Couldn't do much with the one in Mentone. Tracked the one in Stevenson 2.6 miles without ever catching up with the deer. Had a bed with dried up blood in it around the 2 mile mark. All I can figure is he's still chasing doe's. On the way out one of the club members said he had shot at a doe but couldn't find anything. Figured we might as well try it and it ended up being a young buck that made it about 400 yards in some nasty cutover.

Not sure who that would be in Mentone.....My parents used to live up there about 1/4 mile from the state line so it may be some folks they knew

First one was someone trying a Texas heart shot with a .243 Friday afternoon…….Pretty sure it just penetrated into the meat and nothing else……We jumped him 200 yards from the hit site Sat morning but he just wasn’t injured enough to check up for the dogs…..After a mile and him skirting and bypassing a big pond we called it off…..

Second one was shot way back in the guts Sat morning and the exit broke its back leg……The hunters didn’t realize it but they had jumped him and pushed him out of his bed…..We tracked him for about 500 before jumping him and dispatching a little after lunch basically right where the dogs got him up…..

The third one shot way back in the guts this morning and exited the hindquarter as well……He was dead on arrival and made for a pretty straight forward track………My lab chewed the tail off….That’s become her signature…….

The fourth one was shot in the brisket and leg yesterday afternoon…..We got there around lunch and tracked to him about 400 yards from the hit site where we jumped him…..He ran about 100 yards and just laid down and gave up…..The dogs were chewing on him when I got there……He was done for but still needing dispatching………He must have been doing a lot of internal bleeding……

Tracked a doe hit in the hindquarter earlier. Dogs went straight to her and she was in bad enough shape I called the dogs off and let the hunter finish it.

Things are starting to pick up around here......Got two more to go try and find in the morning......The first one has been tracked several hundred yards and jumped.....Not sure where its hit.........The second they think is gut shot on a quartering to angle.......They havent found any blood though......We'll see what we find in the morning....

We got 1 out of 2……..The one we didn’t get likely got the yotes after him……We tracked him for quite a ways to fairly a deep creek where he started crossing back and forth…..We eventually called it off as we tracked him out the creek bottom and through a stand of little pines headed away from the creek….. There was no end in sight on this one and no telling how far they may have taken him…..

The one we did get we found 700 yards from the hit site floating in a pond……It was shot with a .270 from close to the 300 yards…..The shot was just a little off hitting the front of the shoulder and exiting out of the brisket…….

Got to help a guy out on his birthday. The hunter and his dad tracked the deer around 300 yards before they lost it. Muzz made it to where they did and lined it out quick. Didn't take long after that to catch up with him and end it.
