It is a state jail felony in Texas, as well. My deceased FIL found out the hard way. If you ever find yourself in the small town of Crowell, TX, visit the lobby of Crowell State Bank. All those trophy bucks inside were poached by either my FIL or his brother. The sister was a bigwig with the bank and a local taxidermist did the work off the books. It was an inside joke for years.
