The landowner would care....aka the one being stolen from.
Why do you feel it's ridiculous?

It's not the landowner's deer. The deer belong to the state.

The state didn’t poach the deer. 28 year old cj Alexander poached the deer from someone's private property.

Yet some meth head can come on my private property and steal my belongings and get a slap on the wrist. Where's the massive penalties to deter that?

I don’t disagree with you. I’m all for locking them up too. Or for that matter shoot em in the act.

I’m just making the point that if not for massive penalties, there is an army of hunters who will risk small to moderate impacts to their life to kill a deer like that. I’m not saying we as a society need to rank that need over other crimes, I’m just saying if you want to enforce law abiding behavior on this topic in a trophy county in a trophy state - in a society that’s pretty much totally socially degenerated - you’ll have to have these consequences hanging over folks heads.

True, but the landowner was denied possible income from leasing his property for someone to legally harvest that buck.

Agree 100%. We have people doing a lot worse and getting off with a lot less.

We should get tough again on those committing those more serious crimes, not water down laws in other areas to lower the standard.

2Dogs with the right answer!

I've always thought any armed trespasser oughta face the same consequences. Whether he is in my living room or sneaking around on my farm shouldn't make any difference.

Whether one agrees or disagrees with the punishment dealt to the poacher, one thing stands out to me, I'd "bet the farm" he'll not do this crime again.

I disagree. I've overheard poaches in restaurants bragging about how many times they've been busted and they're still going.

I guess I'm thinking like a sane person and not from an addiction standpoint.

I never really thought about the high they get.

Considering that perspective, yeah, I may be wrong on that thought.

I'm not disagreeing with you either.......especially on the shoot em in the act part. LOL!!!

The landowner is NOT “being stolen from”. The landowner does not own the deer, the State does.

Ridiculous for many reasons, don’t have the time to sit here and explain it to you.

Landowners don't own the wildlife , but are a major "stake holder".

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

I guess I’m shocked that anybody on here would disagree with that sentence. Me personally I think it fits. It’s about time somebody gets nailed for this mess. You try being a landowner that has a giant on your property that you’ve been watching for years and want an opportunity at killing it, then some punk goes in there one night and shoots it. Yeah y’all would be pissed.

The punishment should also fit the crime. In this case it doesn't.

I get that the fines are high ,, BUT this guy took the risk .

Years back I know a guy that lost a brand new truck and rifle and payed over $3,500 in fines . I heard him bitch about having to take out a loan on his house because the bank called in the note on the truck .

I say ,,,poachers caught should be made by the judge to perform duties on the land they poached the deer from.... keep the roads on the land clear,,, perform trash detail,,, maintain the food plots,,, cut the grass as needed...disk em till em fert em plant em all at the poachers expense.. If I choose to take my deer to a deer processor they have to pay the fee... don't want to do it then they can sit that punk azz in jail for what ever time the judge sentences them to if they fail to perform the duties set forth...don't like any of it ...then don't be a poacher...teach poachers a lesson and learn the pains owners go through to try and raise deer especially record rack sized bucks.

All free-range game animals belong to the State. The State dictates seasons and bag limits. The poacher killed a deer that belonged to the State of Ohio, he just so happened to kill it on property that he didn’t have permission to be on.

He will do it again.

The year before this kill he killed a 151” 8 point on the SAME property. He was fined $5,000 for that deer.

No need getting all riled up because you either agree or disagree with it.

No black bear season here in Alabama. It is a misdemeanor to kill one, go figure.
