Looking to get rid of the GMC for various reasons and move to a 21-24 F150.
Going V8,not the 6 cyl.eco boost based on my mechanics recommendations.
Any pros and cons from the forum?

Well..idk if its common knowledge but there was a class action lawsuit filed against ford due to engine oil bypassing piston rings and entering the combustion chamber. This causes extremely high oil consumption. This lawsuit effects 2018-2020 5.0 v8 aka coyote. Do some research and see if ford has revised the later models. I had a 2018 with the v8 and it burned 2 quarts of oil every 1200 miles…but it also had the 10 spd transmission..which has had issues…my engine actually ran decent other than the cam phaser rattle and poor idle…but..the 10 spd imploded at 99k miles..an i mean…i lost overdrive gears at like 60mph…and it mad it back to the shop in like 3rd gear..an thats bout all that was left..total destruction. We have another 18 that is on the verge of a very similar fate…an it has about 105k miles. My truck shifted poorly and the transmission made some bad sounds..but it did that forever until i had it flushed..2 weeks later..transmission transformer into a blender. 🙂

I did the same thing a few months ago, got rid of my 2017 GMC Sierra for a 2024 Ford F150 5.0L. So far i have been pleased. The fords are more expensive side by side comparison, so i went from a loaded out Sierra to a basic trim level ford, but i have not regretted it. Ive got about 8,000 miles on the F150 and no issues so far.

I had the 2019 F150 V8 with the 10 speed transmission. I bought used with 19,000 miles. Everything in the truck was nice but the 10 speed was junk. Did some research and apparently the 10 speed transmission manufactured during the 2018 calendar year for the 2019 models had lots of issues and that's what I bought. GMC was also experiencing those issues since it was co-developed with Ford. I believe that they have figured that out and I haven't heard anything else about it.

I have an 18 F150 5.0/10spd. It consumes about a quart and a half between 5k mile oil changes. No issues with the transmission thus far at just over 175k miles. It has had the cam phasers, cam phasers actuators and water pump replaced.

I was unaware of the class action lawsuit.

I’m driving a 2020 for now but getting rid of it once I get it out of the shop. The electrical steering rack went out at 50k miles causing me to loose power steering. I have to replace the starter at some point because it gets too hot making the truck hard to start. The newest issue is the truck lunges forward when you start it and some times makes a strange noise. I’m no mechanic but I do know I will never buy another f-150.

Had a 2020 and didn't like it, rode rough, had a couple recalls right off the bat, and had an injector fail at 5,000 miles. The interior looked like it was installed by a 5 year old. Got a Chevy now and like it better, rides better and much quieter inside. Also the ford 4x4 doesn't have the auto 4wd and the chevy does.

These threads really make me appreciate my 2005 F-150 that only uses a quart of oil every 5K miles

I’ve had 2 other f-150’s before the 2020 and never had an issue. This one is the worse truck I’ve ever owned.

I’ve got a 2016 V8 with a 6 speed transmission with 105,000 miles. Only had it about 17 months and put about 5,000 miles on it, it’s not a daily driver. No oil consumption or transmission problems, hopefully it will stay that way!

I bought a new, 24 Tundra about a month ago . I didn't consider a GM or Ram. I drove two Fords and three Tundras . The Tundra actually rode and drove better to me . I liked the layout of all the controls as it is similar to my wife's Highlander . I bought a better equipped Tundra for $7,000 less than the best price I got on a comparable series F150. Fords are nice trucks , but pricey , boy they're proud of em !

2Dogs how do you like the tundra v6 and transmission? Will probably have to upgrade several tundras next year. I hope they got all the bugs worked out.

The transmission is different , I reckon it's a 10 speed , maybe 8 , but all of them are now. Shifts smooth . That V6 is strong , the one I have has 389 HP and will pin you back in the seat. Toyota had trouble out of them in '22 and some of '23 but I reckon they have it figured out. They got ahead of it and rectified the problem . I'm not concerned , and I'm a bit of a worrier . I really like the Tundra ,I like being back in a full size truck.

To my knowledge Toyota has fixed the issue on the newer models.

The good news (if you wanna call it that) is that it was workmanship related NOT a design flaw that couldn’t be rectified by firing several people and replacing them with people willing to do their job correctly. I’m a big Toyota fan but they’re slipping. Just bought my wife a used Lexus GX460. It’s the last of the V8 models. It’s mostly the same platform as her previous 4Runner but a MUCH nicer vehicle.

2Dogs, how is the legroom in the Tundra?
Every Toyota I’ve sat in my knees hit the steering wheel due to the high floorboards that all have.
Plus I couldn’t adjust the seat high enough to fix that problem.

It's plenty for me , I'm 6'1". It has 8 way power seats so it'll fit most anyone. The front seats are huge , like driving sitting in you favorite recliner. Front and rear seats feel thicker and more plush than the Ford. They are called CrewMax , plenty of room even in the back row. But I did go to the Tundra from a Tacoma so it should feel big. I'd suggest driving one.
