Thanks! Great hunt at my buck field - finally got a SE wind! This guy was a 10 point that had pushed a small buck around made a scrape on the tree line. A older but uglier deer was in the field - a 9 point with a spike and a doe - i thought the deer i was shooting was my big 11 point which is my best deer. It was late and he was back in the tree line - around 5:05 pm on cloudy drizzly day. But It was one of my 10s - it was my best 10 and most years i do not hav a 10 and this was my first ever 10 to shoot. We had talked about letting this one go if i got the 11 first! The 11 may reach 130s - but this deer was 4 or 5 years old. I want to graduate to 5 but hard to let this one walk - he weighed 204 pounds. I actually got buck fever when i shot and thought i might hav missed him.
I got to shot spot and found no blood and was really sick - i thought the 11 point is biggest deer i hav ever shot at and i missed him. Was only probably a 60 yard shot. Backed out - called tracker - tracker found him - probably did not run 50 yards in a thicket - was surprised to see it was not the 11 - but a dang good deer for me!! Art Powers did a great track. Hit deer perfect with my 270 - not a big hole or lot of blood. Trying new bullet that worked great on the range!! Bullet called RifleLine 270 Winchester in blue box
Fortunate to get solid buck!!
