I personally wish they would up the speed limit on county roads but in most cases we don't need 45 mph brains on 75 mph roads.
The county road I pull onto from my little road is now 40 mph. It was 55 for most of my life. About 10 years ago, the county took federal money to redo the road and had to post the limits at what the federal guide lines are at. I cussed that little county engineer for doing that. We do not need federal money to fix county roads. That road is easily a 55 road all day long and it is a long drive to get to the U.S. highway 9. Still peezes me off. I've never gotten stopped (fortunately), but I've seen a lot of folks pulled over by troopers that live in the area and they always get out of the car with their ticket book in their hand. They like to close out their shift close to home. There is two living close by. There are two curves that are necessary to slow down on, but the rest is wide open. It is so stupid, it's ridiculous. Let me tell you about at least one trooper I ran into one day. I was up in Alex City with the wife and kiddos. It was getting close to those stupid ninja turtles coming on, when we were headed back. Tells you how long ago that was...lol I was on hwy 63. There is a big curve at Ourtown. I came over the hill headed downhill to the curve. The car had gotten up to 61 mph. I looked down at my speedo, when he went by the other way and threw his lights on. I pulled over at Ourtown and waited. He came back and was a real dick about it, saying I was doing 71. I don't lie, no need too. He took me to his car and showed me 71 on the radar. I said, you could have gotten that from 280 earlier...he didn't like that. They did not have the time/date stamp then and maybe still don't, which I think is wrong not to have. I didn't argue and was nice the whole time. He acted pissed off. When he handed me the ticket, I said as God is my witness I was not doing that fast. Ok. About 10 days later, the card came in the mail and I went to the Alex city office to pay it. The card said 61 on it!!!!! I told the clerk the screw up and she said, I could only be charged by what the card said. Yeaaah! Either he felt guilty and changed it before turning it in, or God fixed it. (I had prayed about because the more I thought about it, the angrier I became). Prayed and let God have it, so I would have some peace about it. So you can blame the county engineers for taking money to redo county roads, for the speed limit being so dang low. I mean just about all the county roads were 55 for years and years. I have began to think it is a racket, so the cops can write more tickets and the state gets mo' money! There should be no $$$ fines involved. If they want to charge points, that would be ok. I know when I was 16 and living in Montgomery, a ticket was usually just $10 for stop sign/red light/a little speeding. I got them all in a couple of years...lol Whey are they so much now????????????????????????? Rip off.
