I got a ticket doing 70 in a 55, in rural GA, on a road that you could drive 90 on and be safe. The only thing around me were cotton fields. Afterwards I slowed down for the next ~12 miles until I go to my destination and there was a line of at least 8 cars on my ass and that was after 3 cars had passed me. When I was doing 70 there was at least 20-30 seconds between cars. I didn't pass anyone. Me driving 55 was LESS safe.

If you are a cop that does traffic duty, I honestly don't know how you sleep at night after a day of stealing $ from citizens. You are in no way making anyone safer. Police were never intended to be revenue collectors for municipalities.

I understand watching your speed in neighborhoods, etc. But sitting on big open rural roads just to steal $ is BS.

I have driven this road 100 times over many years of hunting in GA. Speed limit is 55, and I see cops sitting on it >50% of the time. I have NEVER seen an accident on it. I have seen cars pulled over getting speeding tickets 5-10% of the times that I am driving it.

They put in a pull over area and cops will sit there and get people coming over the hill. There are several pull over areas on that road.

It is a joke and if this is your job you are nothing more than a thief.

So you think night hunting that big buck you see in the field with your spotlight is OK as long you don't hurt anybody too? Come on man. It's not like you got pulled over for barely breaking the law.

Rural road in Texas are 75mph speed limit. Why are we still at 45 in a lot of places and 55 in others? Money, baby!

Pro tip , when you're pulled over on any two lane in Alabama , don't say you thought the speed limit was 65. The revenue officer , will inform you there ARE NO two lane roads in Alabama that are over 55 as he hands you your ticket.

"Why do you ask"?

Don't ever drive through Brantley then. You will get one for 2 mph over. They don't play.

I dont have anything nice to say…they have a job to do…i do not have to like it..or them…be respectful…because if you dont..they will turn your life into a waking nightmare just because they can. We need good law enforcement that stands up for the people and protects their rights…not road pirates or some militant cult…i know quiet a few cops due to the nature of my job…a few are fine folks and do andy’s work…the rest are high fivin dicks who are turds as soon as they pull up. Id like to say..ive met many state troopers over the years…not a fan…not a fan at all.

America’s Cartel. Especially state troopers, the volunteer fire dept can do the state troopers job for the most part.

The way they are sneaky and hide. Un marked cars etc etc.

You got a ticket because you broke a traffic law. No different then a trespasser or poacher getting caught and getting a ticket or a burglar getting caught and getting fined X amount of dollars. I understand the part about being in wide open country and I probably would have handled it different depending on how the interaction between you and I was. We are a very rural area also and in open none residential areas, no citations are even thought about being issued until 70mph. I hate you got a ticket. Set it at 68 next time and I’d bet you’d be fine.

Coming over a hill on a two-lane country road going 70 is a disaster waiting to happen! There could be a tractor on the road ahead or someone pulling out of a country home driveway or field etc. My drive back and forth on rural roads going from Andalusia to Florida panhandle is filled with folks passing on two lanes going up a hill you can't see over. I find myself slowing down and searching for exit strategies now more than ever before. Sucks to get a ticket but for every person going 70 on a rural road there are many more going 80+, so I understand occasionally monitoring those roads.

I police the way I drive. So when I was on patrol, I gave a lot on speed before I even consider getting out of the car. And even then I hated giving tickets, so I used it more as an opportunity to have a conversation. Most of my tickets came from license, insurance, running red lights, failure to yield, and running stops signs. But again, I hated writing tickets unless it was absolutely necessary. And I got into huge arguments with some people I worked with who were writing tickets for 5 over, while they drive around doing 15+ over. So please do not lump all law enforcement together and say we are nothing but tax collecting thieves.

15 MPH over posted speed limit will usually get you a ticket, especially if you start complaining to the officer when he comes to your window.

I actually got a warning last time I was pulled over for 70 in a 55 mph zone. But I was courteous to the officer and joked with him.

Both Hwy 55 and Hwy 29 south out of Andalusia are terrible most of the time with what you are talking about. Both mostly two lane once you hit the city limit sign leaving, full of farming communities and beach goers who are apparently convinced that the beach will disappear before they can get there! There have been plenty of accidents along both those stretches of roads.

Oddly, though, there are more accidents on Hwy 55 north between River Falls and Georgiana than most would expect as it is all four lane. It is also a major beach route from I-65, though.

That stretch of 55 between River Falls and Georgiana is oddly uncomfortable to drive. I'm not sure the cause but I have had several too close moments right through there. I almost got hit coming onto it from a blind, but not-blind cross-over. You can see everything but the part of the road you really need to see so it creates an illusion of things being clear when its not.

I personally wish they would up the speed limit on county roads but in most cases we don't need 45 mph brains on 75 mph roads.
