Yesterday, I shot a doe and had 4 bucks come and check her out after she crashed. I watched them hang out right where she crashed. They went over and smelled her and just lingered around. Years ago I dropped a doe on the management area and had a buck step out right where she was laying. Bucks are still in groups where I am hunting. So, we have a bit before rut kicks in. Are they just smelling blood and curious or is there some gland that they are smelling?

If you’re in Helena, it’s time they start checking them and hanging close, whether bucks together or not. I’ve got a club not far, and was a goodun killed Friday following a doe about 30 minutes behind her. Only for an even better one to show up walking the same trail about 10 minutes after he shot that one.

I hunt off the Fosters exit. Rut is around Christmas I believe. 👍 Little different timing, but not by much. Who knows the exact reasoning. They just curious and dumb sometimes, except the bigguns.

I've had does running together come over and sniff the blood of one I shot. They're genuinely curious when it comes to various scents.

He was curious all right, bout her pootang . I shot a doe a few years ago and a young buck hung around quite a while and humped on her.
