We made it and popped 2 tents and tarps to set up camp. We had to rush to get climbed with the only day of NE winds we will have. He’s climbed where he killed a doe in Oct. as soon as he stepped out the boat a rack buck stood up across the slough and he has heard a grunt. I came to a spot close where he wanted to hunt I had scouted. Few tracks but looked like a perfect rut stand. Had to come in blind. Deep ditch along a road bed where I can see water to water. Found a tree where the ditch got shallow and thought if I was a buck I would cross here. Dang tree is nearly dead from being climbed for years. I will try to send a few pics to other members to post. We both got Buck and extra doe tag to fill in 4-1/2 days

Just got climbed after the rain moved out but it is hot and humid. Range finder fogs faster than I can clean it. Im on a ridge where I found trail between 2 bedding areas. Community scrape here but it’s not fresh. We’re not seeing much sign at all. Seeing a few does and he had a really nice young 8pt yesterday. Campground is no hunting and deer everywhere including a shooter we saw yesterday. I found a great spot right on the line of no hunt zone. Big active scrape and rub there. Saw 1 doe yesterday pm. It’s slow but I just need 1 hot doe

Scrapes went cold around Wednesday and they have been wide open chasing ever since.

I just got back, saw tons of bucks cruising. Saw a giant with a drop tine that I’m not sure I could’ve hit even if he was in range. Most of the ones I saw were young bucks, only saw 2 shooters but a fun 3 day’s nonetheless.

Always fun if you time it right and catch the rut! Best of luck!

Last 2 days were pretty good, Deer activity picked up big time. I was able to tag my doe early in the trip and yesterday am was our last hunt. I got a knee issue going on and decided to sit on the ground, Went back to the area with the big scrape but moved on a worn out trail nearer to the water. (Deer seemed to be right on the banks) Real thick area. We scouted across the slough to find my buddy a spot in the thick stuff and we were both seeing deer. I set up too close to the trail. Got in really early and cut limbs to make a ground blind to hid myself. Doe walks within 5yrds of me and saw me. I could tell there was a big deer behind her that hit the woods. I caught a glimpse of them as they circled me and could tell it was a decent buck. They crossed the back of the slough where it pinches to a crop field so they were headed his way. Starts to break enough light to see and 2 more does busted me 5yrds away to my left. There was not a climbing tree in the area, this sux, I had to move. I move back to within 25yrds from the boat where I would have a 40yrd shot up the trail at anymore that passed through. Cut some limbs and hid my self and hear a grunt across the slough. I text him Big buck chasing a doe headed right to you, I can see them and they are walking the bank to him. Im thinking this is gonna be cool Im going to watch. I stand up and get to the boat to watch him kill and dangit he misses. The doe blows and comes right back around to my side and the way they came. I see him following her and know I have a chance. I run back to my new seat and 20 minutues later He crossed the trail. 40 yrd shot hit home. He didnt go 35yrds and crashed. I lost a good friend that we buried last Thursday so I said prayer and told him put in a good word for me. I terribly wanted to kill one just to memorialize him on the trip. This one is for you buddy. Ive killed much better but not on a cooler hunt than this was. Lots of emotions poured out after I saw the arrow hit. Anyways it was like a switch had flipped on Monday. Good luck if your up that way

Congrats. Headed that way Saturday. Hope they still moving. Buddies got up today and said they saw four or five bucks riding around.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
