Had to stop and get some batteries around lunch and I thought it was Black Friday after thanksgiving. Never seen so many mask wearing people since Covid.

Despite having close to a million a year in inventory loss that Walmart is still one of the most profitable around. Every year there is unfounded talk of the theft closing it down but Bentonville only cares about the bottom line, which is very good. As long as EBT is available and they show a profit, they are safe.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

We were in the old one in Selma and a black kid (imagine that) loaded a BB-gun and almost shot my son who was 5 at the time. It wasn’t long after that they started zip tying the triggers and locking the ammo up.

It was losing too much through theft to make it profitable. If it was just about theft, they would have closed the on one Ann St. in Montgomery long ago.

The one in Livingston closed due to theft. If it did it was within the last ten years.

As long as EBT is available and they show a profit, they are safe. Walmarks did go and talk to the city about being more aggressive in prosecuting shoplifting several years back. They did. What they were looking for was the City to bear the cost of the officer(s) that are stationed there every evening. I'm the one that negotiated, on behalf of the officers, Walmart paying the cost of those officers being there. Walmart reimburses the City for the officer's salary at time and a half plus all benefits, including retirement contributions. My retirement check is about $100/month higher because I busted my butt at Walmart my last three years, which is what my retirement check is based on. George Evans told me one time that he loved when the city got the checks from Walmart because if you knew how our OT pay was set up, Walmart paid reimbursement on 11 hours for every officer per pay cycle (28 days) that the City never had to pay to the officers because our PD OT didn't kick in until after we had worked 171 hours in a 28 day period. Public Safety entities have different OT rules than the rest of the working world per Federal regulations. If this isn't confusing enough and you still want to know, I'd have to sit down with you and show you like I did all the new officers. It can get confusing when you consider that this is only for working hours so if you take any sick or Annual Leave that doesn't go towards your 171 hours. Whew, I'm just glad I don't have to keep up with all that to know how much my pay check is supposed to be. Now it is the same thing every month except my FEMA check and it is straight hours with no taxes or deductions. That all falls on April 14.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The Livingston Walmart closed in January of 2006 because the Demopolis Supercenter was set to open and they wanted the business to go to the Superstore. The old Livingston Walmart was not a supercenter. It was nice to have in college though.

I had heard that the one in 5 Points West in Birmingham had the highest shrinkage/loss rate in the country at the time. They closed it down as soon as the city subsidies and incentives expired.
